It is always busy in Harrisburg, especially in June! The budget month! I was lucky to have SEIU come and visit me for 15 minutes. They are asking for some legislative priorities that I think we can all agree with. They want our nursing homes funded to protect our seniors. They want transparency on ownership, evaluations, earmarks, and restructuring. They want a living wage. I happen to agree with them!

As State Representative of the 189th disitrict, I support the Graduate Assistants at Penn State who have voted overwhelmingly to form a union. I call on Penn State to drop their appeal to exclude Research Assistants in the union of graduate assistants at Penn State. These workers are critical to the research and education mission of Penn State and voted in favor of unionization. Penn State should respect their voice and drop the appeal.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to spend some time with an awesome group of dedicated Cub Scouts, the Webelos from Pack 86 (and their families) as the scouts earned their “My Community” badge by meeting with an elected official. They were so fun and funny, asked great questions (one asked my age, ha!) and were a pleasure to be with at their last scout meeting before they move on to their next rank, Arrow of Light. Congrats all, hope to come visit with you again soon!

Jessica from my office sat in yesterday with Pocono Autism Society and Nipho Anyumba, the Northeast Coordinator for Parent To Parent who discussed resources the organization, which is funded by the Commonwealth, provides to families in our community and beyond. She reported a spirited and positive discussion. It was a great chance for our office to get to spend time connecting with families and advocates from our autism and spectrum community. This morning, Erin from my office attended the Habitat for Humanity Breakfast on my behalf. Habitat for Humanity continues to be an invaluable asset to our community, helping local families achieve stability, security, and the dream of homeownership.

I am proud to always support the important work they do, and I was also proud to help secure $150,000 in Local Share Account (LSA) grant funding to assist Habitat with the purchase of new vehicles to better serve our region.
