This month, Huntington celebrates Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and the many individuals who use AAC to express their thoughts, ideas, needs, and personalities. AAC gives people a voice and helps create opportunities for meaningful participation, connection, and learning. THANK YOU to our fantastic speech pathologists who facilitated morning announcements for all of our students who use AAC devices. We are beyond lucky to have you!

Rachel Foster and Stacey Sinclair are Speech Pathologists at Huntington Pre-K-8 School... and they're also Stars of the SCSD! Vice Principal Emily Carpenter shared that the team led an AAC Awareness Month initiative in the school, demonstrating outstanding dedication to student voice and inclusive practices.

"By creating opportunities for students who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices to participate in daily school announcements, Ms. Foster and Ms. Sinclair are fostering self-advocacy, belonging, and meaningful engagement within our school community," Ms. Carpenter shared. "Their work exemplifies a commitment to ensuring that all students have authentic opportunities to communicate, connect, and contribute."

This is a friendly reminder that only Kindergarten parents should be picking up students at the doors of the building. We want to ensure that these families can communicate with teachers and sign their students out safely.

All other families should wait at their designated grade level cone to safely pick up your child.
