Happy Birthday to a fascinating North Florida figure, Madame Catherine Murat! 🎂👑✨

Born on August 14, Catherine Murat’s life was full of incredible connections—she was related to George Washington by birth and became a French princess by marrying Prince Achille Murat! 🇫🇷🇺🇸

Through her marriage, her in-laws were none other than Caroline Bonaparte (Napoleon’s sister) and Joachim Murat (King of Naples and Marshal of France). Swipe through to see some of the unique artifacts in our museum collection—from 1800s engravings to vintage 1930s to***co cards—depicting her famous royal family!

From 1854 to 1867, Princess Catherine lived right here at Bellevue Plantation. Today, Bellevue stands on our museum grounds as a living window into the past, where visitors can tour the preserved main house, historic detached kitchen, and grounds to explore 19th-century Florida history. 🏡🌾

Did you know a piece of authentic Apollo space history from the is currently on display downtown? 🚀✨

We teamed up with our friends at the Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee to showcase an extraordinary artifact: a 1968 Apollo Inflight Coverall Garment (ICG) jacket and pants!

Manufactured by B. Welson Co., this white flight suit was woven from fire-proof Beta cloth—a revolutionary spun-glass material developed directly in response to the Apollo 1 safety overhaul. Complete with the iconic NASA "Meatball" insignia and specialized environmental port connections, these garments kept astronauts protected and comfortable inside the Command Module during deep-space transit.

We are proud to steward Florida’s rich aerospace heritage and partner with local institutions to bring living history to our community! 🧑‍🚀

Stop by the Challenger Learning Center downtown to view this remarkable piece of space history up close.

Get ready for your daily dose of pure joy! 🥹🐺

We’re giving you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Ace and Rue’s four red wolf pups zooming around their habitat!

If you look closely, you might spot our extra special little girl in the mix. Born with a congenital defect that left her missing her front right leg, she doesn't let anything slow her down, and we are happy to report that she is doing fantastic and runs just as fast as her brothers and sister! 💪🙌

Red wolves are one of the most endangered species on the planet, and seeing these four thrive behind the scenes is a huge win for conservation efforts right here in North Florida. 🌲💚

Ever wonder what goes on inside our red wolf den? 🐺👀

Because these pups are being raised with the goal of releasing them back into the wild, human contact is kept to an absolute minimum.

That makes camera footage like this a rare peek into their world... and as you can tell, this pup decided our camera needed a quick taste test! 😂📱

Beyond the cute curiosity, posts like this showcase why conservation work matters so much. Red wolves are critically endangered, and through the AZA SAFE program, every ticket, membership, and donation directly helps fuel vital species survival work right here in North Florida. 🌿💚

With the timely announcement of the Phoenix Species Project’s Red Wolf initiative, we want our proven experts involved! 🐺 At the Tallahassee Museum, we’ve been a very successful member of the red wolf conservation effort since 1988.

The Tallahassee Museum has been a key participant in the Red Wolf Species Survival Plan, now the American Red Wolf SAFE (Saving Animals from Extinction) Project since 1988, following the alarming decline of wild red wolves.

At the time, fewer than 20 red wolves were in the wild and declared biologically extinct.

The Tallahassee Museum was among the first national sites to work with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in a captive breeding program aimed to restore the red wolf population in the wild 🐾
