FEMA Mobile Registration Intake Center (MRIC) will be open for Tipton County residents. Representatives at this center will provide in-person assistance, answer questions and help homeowners and renters apply for FEMA's Individual Assistance Program for residents effected by the flood.

Low‑interest SBA disaster loans are now available for Indiana residents, businesses and nonprofits impacted by the Aug. 11 storms, tornadoes and flooding. Eligible counties can apply for help with physical damage or economic injury, with loan options for homeowners, renters and organizations. Mitigation upgrades may also qualify.

The deadline to apply for physical damage is Oct. 25, 2026. The deadline to apply for economic injury is May 25, 2027.

Important Disaster Assistance Information!

If your home was impacted by the August 11, 2026 severe weather and flooding, there may be assistance available through the Indiana State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF).

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) reports that residents whose primary residence was impacted may qualify for assistance for certain uninsured damages, provided the required disaster declaration criteria are met. Eligible expenses may include certain:

- Home repairs
- Essential furnishings
- Essential appliances
- Essential tools
- Debris removal
- Medical devices
- Essential transportation

Tipton County residents are specifically included in the counties being asked to report storm damage to Indiana 211.

Reporting your damage helps the state develop a comprehensive assessment of the disaster and determine what additional assistance may be available.

If you believe you may qualify for assistance, you can submit an application through IDHS. Applications will be reviewed by the state, and additional information may be requested.

IDHS' August Disaster Resource Hub is now available. The hub serves as a comprehensive resource center for individuals seeking state and federal assistance and updates related to the severe weather events that began on Aug. 11.

The hub also includes the application for the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF), specifically for Aug. 11 events. Impacted Hoosiers may qualify for emergency aid grants of up to $5,000. This fund is designed to help families secure essential items like clothing and uninsured medical devices while they are displaced from their homes.

Flood Cleanup Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteers are needed to help with flood cleanup at the former Steel Parts Factory. Our community is coming together to help residents affected by the recent flooding, and we need helping hands!

The City of Tipton, Ind. has dumpsters available for community members affected by the flood to dispose of flood-damaged materials and debris. Volunteers will assist with cleanup and moving materials to the dumpsters.

📍 Location: 801 Berryman Pike - Former Steel Parts Factory
🚗 Volunteer Parking: Please park in the former employee parking lot.

⚠️ Volunteer Requirements

Due to the nature of the work, volunteers must:

- Be 18 years of age or older
- Wear closed-toe shoes or work boots
- Wear waterproof work gloves
- Wear long pants is recommended
- Be prepared to work in wet, muddy, smelly, and physically demanding conditions
- Be aware that wildlife, including snakes and field mice, may be present

Volunteers should only participate if they are physically able to safely perform this type of work.

More storms and rain is on the way for us this evening and night. We could see another 2-4" of rain tonight. With as saturated as the ground is expect flash flooding tonight. Never drive through flooded roadways. Continue to monitor the weather as the afternoon goes on.

Scattered to numerous showers and storms are expected later today into tonight. Some of these storms could be severe with primarily a damaging wind threat, but severe hail cannot be ruled out as well. The greatest threat from storms will be flash flooding.
