The Tahoe Truckee Unified School District is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, 100 miles northeast of Sacramento, and 35 miles west of Reno, Nevada. The District serves approximately 4,100 students in California's Nevada, Placer, and El Dorado Counties. District boundaries stretch from Hobart Mills, eight miles north of Truckee to Emerald Bay, near South Lake Tahoe; and from Cisco Grove, t

wenty miles to the west, to Floriston, fifteen miles to the east. The District encompasses more than 720 square miles.

If existing parcel tax funding expires, TTUSD could have to cut approximately $5 million from its annual budget. Given that the large of majority of the District’s budget is dedicated to teachers and staff, this could mean cuts to academic programs and teacher and school staff layoffs.

The TTUSD Board of Education voted to place a measure on the November 3, 2026, ballot that would renew the current $148 annual parcel tax rate and increase it by $40 to account for inflation since the last renewal in 2018, for a total of $188.

Yes. Since 1989, local school parcel tax funding represents over 5% of the school district budget. This funding supplements funding from the State that only supports a basic education.

Voter-approved parcel tax proceeds are used to fund efforts to attract and retain qualified and experienced teachers, maintain manageable class sizes, and support quality academic and job training programs that help prepare students for success in college and the workforce.

This parcel tax funding will expire soon. If the funding does not continue, over $5 million may need to be cut from the budget, which could lead to teacher layoffs, cuts to academic programs, and increased class sizes.
