On July 8, 2026, at approximately 4:08 p.m., the Valley City Police Department responded to a reported road rage incident in which one party allegedly stopped and pointed a firearm at another vehicle.

Officers located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the Petro Serve USA parking lot. Following an investigation, officers located a firearm, and the driver, Gregory Heckman, 64, was taken into custody without incident.

Heckman was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and terrorizing.

The Valley City Police Department was assisted by the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office and the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

This case remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Valley City Police Department at 701-845-3110.

This good boy was found in the 200 block of Viking Drive SW and was turned into the police department. If the owner could contact the PD at 701-845-3110.

[2:00 PM CDT Monday, June 29th] A Tornado Watch has been issued for parts of central and all of eastern North Dakota until 10 PM. Keep an eye on the weather for the rest of the day and know where to seek shelter!

Except as provided herein, fireworks as defined and permitted to be sold pursuant to N.D.C.C. Ch. 23-15 may be offered for sale, exposed for sale, sold at retail only between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. from June 27 to July 5, and used, detonated, or exploded only between July 1, 2, 3 and July 5 between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m. on July 4th and 12:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. on July 5th, and until 1:00 a.m. on the night of December 31—January 1. Discharge of fireworks is hereby prohibited between December 26th at 8:00 a.m through December 30th at 11:00 p.m. The sale, use, detonation, or explosion of fireworks commonly known as bottle-rockets or Roman candles is prohibited at all times.
