🎃Say BOO to landfills - let's make spooky season sustainable! 🎃

Give your Halloween pumpkins a second life. Instead of throwing them in the garbage and sending them to the landfill, compost them to reduce food waste and nourish the earth.

Here are some easy ways to compost pumpkins in Clark County:

· Free Drop-Off: We Compost Community Hubs are available to all Clark County residents. These hubs provide the community with a free and easy way to compost all food waste (not just pumpkins). Find a hub location near you: ClarkWeCompost.org

· Curbside Compost: In Clark County (except Camas and Washougal), pumpkins are accepted in Waste Connections of Washington Yard Debris and Organics carts.

· Backyard Compost: If you have a home compost system, chop up pumpkins into smaller pieces and place into your compost pile or worm bin. If you want to learn how to compost, check out free workshops and virtual resources with the Composter Recycler program: ClarkCountyComposts.org

Remember to prep pumpkins for compost – this means that all candles, wax, glitter, paint and decorations should be removed. Tip for painted pumpkins: try washing off paint or peeling off with a vegetable peeler.

It's Bat Week! 🦇

These flying mammals are truly amazing and play an essential role in our ecosystems. Bats are often misunderstood creatures. They are actually the coolest! Check out these facts:

🖤 Only 3 species of bats out of 1,400 around the world are Vampire Bats.
🖤 The oldest known bat was 41 years old!
🖤 Baby bats are called pups.
🖤 Almost all species of bats hang upside down. Their feet are clenched in a relaxed position, making it easy to hold on to a branch. Falling from the branch allows them to quickly gain momentum.

It was a small but mighty group that volunteered at this past Saturday's Stewardship event! The volunteers reclaimed our path to the Kingfisher building from weeds and added new mulch. They used our brand new wheelbarrow to move and spread mulch. ⛏

Thank you volunteers for spending your morning with us! Thank you to Sol Minion Development for sponsoring and volunteering at the event, and helping us purchase our new wheelbarrow! 💚
