WAILUKU, Hawaiʻi (June 6, 2026)—The Maui County Council passed a trimmed fiscal year 2027 budget on second and final reading yesterday with support for affordable housing, social services and disaster mitigation and recovery, Chair Alice L. Lee announced yesterday.

The Maui County Council held a moment of silence at the start of its meeting this morning for former Councilmember Rick Medina, who died April 11. Medina served seven terms on the council from 1977-1985 and 1989-1995. He continued to serve the people of the county through numerous community organizations. Chair Alice L. Lee shared a few words about her former colleague in opening remarks.
