🚧🚂 WELL, THIS IS INCONVENIENT… 😂

Starting Monday, October 19, SR 218 in Walton will be CLOSED at the railroad crossing between Depot St. and Church St. for approximately 4 days.

Apparently, the railroad tracks have an appointment, and the rest of us weren’t consulted. 🤷‍♂️

🚧 Local access will be maintained up to the crossing.

🚗 Official detour: US 35 → SR 18 → US 31.

🚒 Walton Fire would like to remind everyone that:

• Road closed means road closed. Even if you’ve lived here your whole life.

• Your GPS has never been to Walton and clearly doesn’t know what it’s talking about.

• Complaining about the closure will not make the railroad work any faster. But we understand if you need to vent. 😂

Four days, folks. We can do this. Probably. 🚒

ROAD CLOSURE - State Road 218 in Cass County

State Road 218 will be closed at the railroad crossing between Depot St and Church St in Walton for approximately four days beginning on or after Monday, October 19 while the railroad works on their crossing. The closure will be confined to this location, and local access will be maintained up to that point. The official detour will follow U.S. 35, State Road 18 and U.S. 31.

Following the recent facelift and a LOT of deliberation, we think it’s time to rename our station 2 brush truck (Truck 88). Previously named “Stump Jumper” we want the community's input on whether we should change it!

Comment below with what this truck's nickname should be! You can also “like” the nickname you would like to see! The comment with the most likes will have that nickname placed on the front bumper. The winner will also receive a Walton Fire Swag pack!

🔋 Your battery should power your device—not audition as a smoke machine.

It’s Fire Prevention Week! Watch for these rechargeable-battery red flags:

🥵 Unusually hot
🎈 Swelling or leaking
👃 Strange smells
🔊 Popping or hissing
💨 Smoke

Notice any of these? Stop using it. “Maybe it’ll fix itself” is not a repair plan.

If it’s smoking, move away and call 911. Don’t pick it up or puncture it.

🌽🚜 HARVEST SEASON IS HERE! 🚜🌽

It’s that time of year again around Walton! Farmers are hitting the fields, which means large, slow-moving equipment will be sharing our roads.

A few reminders from Walton Fire:

🚜 Slow down when approaching farm equipment.
↔️ Give them plenty of room. These machines are wider than they look.
⚠️ Be patient. That tractor isn’t going 15 mph just to ruin your day. 😏
👀 Watch for equipment entering or leaving fields, especially near hills and curves.
🚫 Don’t pass unless you can clearly see that it’s safe.

Farmers are working long hours to get the harvest in, and everyone else is trying to get where they’re going.

A couple extra minutes behind a tractor beats spending a couple hours with us. 🚒😉

Let’s keep our farmers, families, and everyone traveling our roads safe this harvest season.

We were excited to host this class offering! Your local responders are constantly preparing for new, and existing, facilities in the area. This preparation not only protects responders, but more importantly, the public, during emergencies. 🔋 ☀️

Thanks to a Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness Grant we were able to have a Battery Storage System/Solar Facility Preparedness and Response Training today held at Walton Fire Department. These types of facilities require specialized resources and tactics for successful mitigation. We enjoyed working together with area responders to discuss ways to keep response personnel and the citizens they serve safer when responding to these newer additions to the community.

We couldn’t be more thankful for this opportunity! This funding will impact lives within our community and surrounding communities for many years to come. ❤️

United Way of Cass County has awarded $15,684 to the Walton Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) for the Advanced Resuscitation and Medical Equipment Modernization Initiative. This funding will enable the department to replace their current resuscitation system, which will become inoperable in December.

These upgrades will allow the department to respond to emergencies efficiently and provide quality medical treatment in rural areas of the county.

“Our Impact Fund enables us to fund urgent needs, and this request was a perfect use of this fund. We recognize how important it is for the WVFD to have these life-saving devices and modernized equipment,” stated Chris Armstrong, United Way of Cass County Executive Director.

WVFD has seen an increase in calls for service in recent years, responding to 408 emergency calls in 2025. The updated equipment will help them keep up with the increased demand throughout their service area.

“The funding provided by the United Way of Cass County will have a profound and lasting impact on the citizens of our service area for many years to come. We are truly grateful for your commitment to strengthening our community and supporting the organizations that serve it,” said Nathan LoCoco, FF/EMT-B, PI of WVFD.
