Disagreements between Democrats and Republicans aren’t new, but breaking apart appropriations bills over a refusal to fund basic operations of the government is truly uncharted territory.

Since Democrats walked away from the appropriations process, passing funding for ICE and CBP through reconciliation is paramount to keep Americans safe.

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt is pushing the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act of 2026, reintroducing the bipartisan legislation that would eliminate government shutdowns by forcing every member of Congress to stay in Washington until spending bills are done.

“Alabamians sent me to the Senate to work on their behalf and deliver results — not participate in the business-as-usual practices that have led to an unsustainable national deficit and even more out-of-control spending,” Britt (R-Montgomery) said.

What we saw in New Jersey was not a peaceful protest. It was the obstruction of lawful federal operations and assaults on law enforcement officers.

ICE officers face a 1,300% increase in assaults and an 8,000% increase in death threats. We all must condemn this violence and chaos and call out the rhetoric fueling it.

It was an honor to speak with Alabama Girls State delegates at the 2026 opening ceremony.

This organization means the world to me as a former Enterprise High School delegate and Girls State Governor. It’s why, now five years ago, I announced my Senate campaign at this event.

I know this week ahead will be as impactful for this group of young women as it was for me, and I can’t wait to see the ways they will lead and serve in the future.
