From veterans and active-duty servicemembers to first responders and front-line workers, their courage, service, and sacrifice deserve our gratitude every day of the year.

Michael Pittman, a lifelong resident of Enfield, is dedicated to helping young people and returning citizens build brighter futures across Halifax County. As Director of the Halifax County Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program and Operation ReStart, he is creating pathways to employment, education, and second chances for those working to build a better future.

Through the WIOA program, Michael helps high-risk youth prepare for successful careers by developing workplace skills, building confidence, and encouraging positive involvement in their communities. Through Operation ReStart, he works with justice-involved individuals as they transition back into society, connecting them with education, workforce training, and employment opportunities that help reduce recidivism and create long-term stability. Michael believes every person deserves the opportunity to succeed. His leadership has empowered young people to realize their potential, helped individuals rebuild their lives, and strengthened families and communities throughout Halifax County.

We are proud to recognize Michael Pittman for his unwavering commitment to expanding opportunity, restoring hope, and making a lasting difference in eastern North Carolina.

Across eastern North Carolina, these programs keep health care within reach, sustain rural hospitals and clinics, and help our neighbors receive the care they need close to home.
