Ricky Parks of Rocky Mount has dedicated his career to serving eastern North Carolina and our state. From protecting our communities in law enforcement to serving as Marshal of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, Ricky has spent more than 37 years answering the call to serve.

Receiving a special “Thin Blue Line” quilt from the Tar River Piecemakers Quilting Guild was a fitting tribute to a life dedicated to service.

Our families deserve a government that focuses on what matters, works across party lines, and delivers results. I’ll keep showing up, working hard, and fighting for the communities we call home.

Glad to champion the following bills:

▪️ H.R. 309, National Law Enforcement Officers Remembrance, Support and Community Outreach Act, would support community outreach, public safety education, and officer wellness initiatives. Our law enforcement officers put themselves on the line for us, and we have a responsibility to stand behind them.

▪️ H.R. 979, AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act, would preserve access to AM radio in new vehicles. When hurricanes and severe storms knock out power or cell service, eastern North Carolinians need reliable access to emergency information.

▪️ H.R. 1266, Combating Illicit Xylazine Act, would strengthen law enforcement tools to combat the illicit use and trafficking of xylazine while preserving legitimate veterinary uses. We must keep dangerous drugs off our streets while protecting the farmers and veterinarians who rely on xylazine for legitimate purposes.

Twenty-five years later, eastern North Carolina has not forgotten.

A memorial ride through Camden, Currituck, and Pasquotank counties honored the nearly 3,000 innocent lives taken on September 11 and the first responders who ran toward danger.

Friday in the First

Joey Parks, a Rocky Mount resident and Director of Fire Services at Nash Community College, has spent nearly four decades preparing first responders to answer the call when their communities need them most. After nearly 30 years with the Rocky Mount Fire Department, retiring as a captain, Joey turned his front-line experience into a commitment to training the next generation of firefighters.

At Nash Community College, Joey oversees training and certification for firefighters, emergency medical services personnel, and emergency management professionals, helping ensure eastern North Carolina’s first responders are prepared to meet the challenges they face.

We are proud to recognize Joey Parks for a lifetime of service and for passing on his knowledge, experience, and commitment to the next generation of first responders who serve eastern North Carolina. His example reminds us that true service does not end with retirement; it continues through the lives we prepare, the communities we strengthen, and the people we inspire to answer the call.

Eastern North Carolina continues to prove that great ideas and talented people can make a difference far beyond our region. During my visit to SEPRO Scientific in Rocky Mount, employees were working hard to improve water quality and address phosphorus challenges in communities across the country.

Their work supports local jobs, creates opportunities for families, and puts eastern North Carolina talent to work solving challenges facing people across America.
