Congressman Gus Bilirakis Congressman for Florida's 12th Congressional District I am also a Member on the Health and the Communication and Technology Subcommittees.

As Congressman for Florida’s 12th Congressional District since 2013, I represent all of Pasco and northern parts of Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. Prior to being elected to Congress, I served four terms as a member of the Florida House of Representatives. In Congress, I work in a bipartisan manner to control federal spending, make government smaller and smarter, strengthen homeland security, lower taxes, improve education, increase access to quality health care, protect veterans’ benefits, and ensure the long-term viability of Social Security and Medicare. Currently, I serve as a Ranking Member of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Additionally, I serve on the Veterans Policy Advisory Committee. Some of my other leadership assignments are: Co-Chair of the Military Veterans Caucus, Co-Chair of the House Congenital Heart Caucus, Co-Chair of the House Community College Caucus, Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus for the Humane Bond, Co-Chair of the Travel and Tourism Caucus, Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Parkinson's Disease, Co-Chair of the International Religious Freedom Caucus, Co-Chair of the Hellenic-Israel Alliance, Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues, Co-Chair of the Infection Prevention and Control in Long-Term Care Caucus. Homeownership is already expensive enough. Families shouldn’t be forced to keep paying unnecessary mortgage insurance after they’ve built substantial equity in their homes. That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor the Mortgage Insurance Freedom Act. This commonsense bill would allow FHA homeowners to stop paying mortgage insurance premiums once their loan balance reaches 78% of the home’s original value - bringing FHA rules more in line with conventional mortgages. At a time when families are facing higher costs across the board, I’ll keep looking for practical ways to lower the cost of homeownership and help Floridians keep more of their hard-earned money.

In the Communications and Technology Subcommittee, we advanced a bipartisan package of bills to strengthen America’s communications networks, protect consumers, and ensure our technology policies keep pace with innovation. These measures will help modernize outdated satellite regulations, strengthen and expand broadband networks, combat illegal foreign robocalls, harness AI to improve network security, and protect America’s communications infrastructure from foreign threats. Technology is changing rapidly, and our policies need to keep pace. Seniors should get the relief - not insurance companies. That’s the simple principle behind my new Part D Premium Protection Act of 2026. My bill would preserve premium relief for seniors in stand-alone Medicare Part D plans for 2027, without bringing back additional taxpayer protections for insurance companies. Insurance companies have had two years to adjust. Seniors living on fixed incomes shouldn’t be left holding the bag. When the choice is between protecting an insurance company’s bottom line and lowering a senior’s monthly prescription drug bill, I’ll choose the senior every single time.

Iran cannot be allowed to evade U.S. sanctions by using foreign financial institutions to bankroll its dangerous activities. That’s why my colleagues and I are pressing the Treasury Department to hold Chinese banks accountable if they are helping Iran turn its oil into cash. China has been the largest buyer of Iranian oil, and the Administration has made clear that financial institutions facilitating these transactions could face secondary sanctions. We must close the loopholes, cut off the flow of money to the Iranian regime, and use every economic tool available to protect America and our allies.

As the August District Work Period comes to a close, I’m grateful for the opportunity to spend the past several weeks doing what matters most: listening to the people I represent. I participated in more than 70 forums, roundtables, site visits, legislative meetings, community events and constituent gatherings - speaking directly with thousands of our neighbors about the issues that matter most to their families. I also reached thousands of families through my Back to School Telephone Town Hall with Pasco School Superintendent John Legg. From affordability, housing and healthcare to education, transportation, small businesses, seniors and Veterans, I’ve heard directly about the challenges our neighbors are facing and the solutions they want Congress to pursue. Your input helps shape my priorities.
