Today, we honor Officer Brian Sicknick— a 12-year Capitol Police veteran and a son of New Jersey’s 12th District.

Officer Sicknick tragically lost his life after defending others during the attack on the Capitol, which left hundreds of officers injured. He would have been 48 years old today.

We owe Officer Sicknick a debt of gratitude we can never fully repay. Though nothing we do can replace his loss, we remain committed to honoring his sacrifice and ensuring such a tragedy never happens again.

Today marks 16 years since the last federal minimum wage increase.

Since then, the cost of housing, groceries, health care, & child care has skyrocketed, leaving millions of workers behind.

I've joined Congresswoman Delia Ramirez and Congresswoman Analilia Mejia Living Wage for All Act to raise the wage to $25 an hour because one full time job should be enough to live with dignity.

As we continue to mark week, I had the privilege of speaking with actress, writer, and activist Tatyana Ali and her husband, Dr. Vaughn Rasberry. During our conversation, they recounted Tatyana’s birthing experiences and the importance of legislation to improve maternal health outcomes and help women overcome traumatic experiences. I’m proud to work with Tatyana to ensure women can access the care they need in order to live a healthy life for themselves and their families.

This week, I stood with a coalition led by Rep. Alma Adams, Ph.D. as we introduced our 2026 resolution marking Black Women’s Equal Pay Day on July 21st.

Last year, however, we marked Black Women’s Equal Pay Day on July 10th. It’s taking Black women even longer to earn as much as white men as the wage gap has widened for the first time since the 1960s. And as we navigate a nationwide affordability crisis, Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have stripped away tools to narrow the pay gap and made it harder for black women to earn good-paying jobs.

Black women are foundational to the progress and survival of this nation yet for far too long have been prevented from reaping the fruits of their labor. It’s imperative that we address the racist, sexist policies that cause structural economic inequality in America so Black women are paid what they’ve earned.

Instead of lowering costs, Republicans are spending BILLIONS on political stunts and protecting their financial interests. Their claim that we can’t afford to meet people’s basic needs tells you what their priorities are.

I voted HELL NO to 3 bad bills that would hurt Americans:

1) A third GOP reconciliation process using nearly $100 billion in taxpayer money to pay for Trump's foolish mistakes during his never-ending war of choice in Iran and downright un-American attempts at voter suppression through the SAVE Act here at home.

2) A defense bill greenlighting over $1.15 trillion in national security spending for a Department of Defense that never passed an audit. It also burdens taxpayers w/ a $125 million bill for the renaming of the Department — a waste of money for one man’s ego.

3) A fake stock trading ban on members of Congress ignoring widely reported insider trading by Trump, his family and his admin. Instead, it includes an unrelated provision narrowing the list of acceptable photo IDs to cast a ballot and gutting mail-in voting.

This nonsense is NOT what the Americans asked for and GOP leadership should be ashamed to bring these bills to the floor right before leaving DC for five weeks. Sadly, this is what we’ve come to expect from the most corrupt President in my lifetime and his enablers in Congress.

Join me and Tatyana Ali this TODAY at 3pm ET / 12pm PT for a conversation about maternal health and my bill -- the Traumatic Births Research Act.

During Black Maternal Mental Health Week, conversations like this are imperative in order to improve maternal health outcomes.

While millions of children go hungry, Republicans are giving the richest 1% over $1 trillion in tax cuts and Trump is pocketing $2.2 billion for himself and his family.

Trump & Republicans are working for themselves and their billionaire donors— not you.

Nationwide, an estimated 4 million people have been kicked off SNAP since the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill, the report finds.
