Last year, it was a $5,000 DOGE dividend; then a $2,000 tariff tax rebate. But all that families actually received were bigger and bigger bills for most everything they need. Now, Trump again promises $5,000 for free.

As I told The Wall Street Journal, he assumes Americans are gullible and will accept his lies—the bigger, the better. As more and more people see through his scams, expect Trump to become even more desperate.

Once again, Trump earns his self-proclaimed title of “King of Debt.“

Even as his advisors began to backtrack from his claim that every adult American would get a $5,000 check, those of us concerned with the dangers of runaway national debt have questioned his reckless proposal.

At a time when our national debt has surpassed $40 trillion, Trump’s proposal is to borrow another trillion-plus dollars to hand out checks.

The president’s idea to hand every American adult a “dividend” if Republicans keep control of Congress in the midterm elections raises questions.

Americans Against Government Censorship recognizes both the danger of Trump repression and the value of the PROOF Act, which I authored. The IRS must not use the Tax Code as a political weapon against organizations that fall out of favor with whoever is in the White House.

My bill with Rep. Terri Sewell assures due process and requires government to show its evidence, explain its case, and give nonprofits a meaningful opportunity to be heard before taking away their tax-exempt status. These protections should apply to everyone—regardless of their politics.
