No child belongs in detention.

This week, I visited four ORR facilities across the Houston area to conduct oversight and see conditions firsthand. None were at capacity, but serious challenges remain.

We must keep working to make sure children spend as little time in government custody as possible and are treated with care, dignity, and humanity. I’ll keep demanding accountability and fighting for every child.

Seven years ago today, the El Paso community was changed by a tragic mass shooting that claimed the lives of 23 innocent people in a local Walmart. It remains one of the deadliest attacks targeting the Latino community in modern U.S. history.

Today, we honor the victims and stand with the El Paso community. We must continue to work together to end gun violence and pass common sense gun safety laws that save lives.

José Trinidad Rojas Pliego was released from ICE custody, but two witnesses to Lorenzo Salgado Araujo’s death are still being held.

Victor Salgado Araujo and Daniel Tirado Pantoja deserve due process. Lorenzo’s family deserves the full truth.

We will keep fighting for transparency and accountability.

José Trinidad Rojas Pliego has been released from ICE custody.

This is a critical step forward. But we will not stop until Victor Salgado Araujo and Daniel Tirado Pantoja, the two other passengers, are released.

The order was filed on Monday and states that Jose Trinidad Rojas Pliego was to be released within 48 hours.
