Four years ago today, Guatemalan journalist José Rubén Zamora was unjustly imprisoned in retaliation for his work exposing corruption.

For 1,461 days, Zamora has been denied due process as his case remains stalled by continued inaction. Targeting journalists for holding power accountable is an attack on democracy itself.

Guatemala must uphold the rule of law, bring these proceedings to an end without further delay, and guarantee José Rubén Zamora’s freedom.
