Their fresh perspectives, dedication, and genuine desire to serve our community make a meaningful difference each and every day. Public service isn't always easy, but they continue to show up ready to learn, contribute, and strengthen the project of our democracy.

When five-year-old Liam Ramos was detained by ICE while walking home from school, he was transferred to the Dilley Trailer Prison in Texas. Liam's unlawful detention brought national attention to the cruelty of Donald Trump's immigration policies. But Liam's story is not unique. Infants, toddlers, school-aged children, and teenagers are detained there every day.

These children belong in school, at home with their families, and surrounded by the care every child deserves. Instead, they are being subjected to unsanitary living conditions, contaminated food and water, and inadequate access to medical care. Many are held for more than 30 days, and some for more than 50 days, despite the longstanding policy limiting the detention of children to no more than 20 days. All so Donald Trump can advance his cruel mass detention and deportation agenda.

I'm demanding that Trump immediately and release these children.

We cannot normalize this level of cruelty in the name of immigration enforcement. No child should ever be treated as a political pawn or subjected to these inhumane conditions. That is why we must continue fighting to protect the rights, safety, and dignity of our immigrant communities. Every person has inherent worth, and every child deserves to live free from fear and with hope for the future.

Todd Blanche testified before Congress and made one thing clear: his loyalty remains with his friend and former client, Donald Trump.

Even as Acting Attorney General, Blanche continues to act like Trump's personal defense attorney. He has used his authority to grant Trump and his family a sweeping "Super Pardon," attempt to establish a $1.8 billion taxpayer-funded slush fund for January 6 rioters, and oversee the disgraceful handling and cover-up of Trump's role in the Epstein files.

Todd Blanche will not serve the American people. He will serve Donald Trump.

Any Republican who votes to confirm Blanche is endorsing Trump's corrupt effort to shield himself from accountability and reward his political allies with taxpayer dollars. The American people deserve an Attorney General who answers to the Constitution, not to a former client.

I unequivocally believe in Israel’s right to exist as a sovereign Jewish state, and I am unwavering in my belief that Israel has the right to defend its people against hostile governments and proxy groups that seek its destruction. I also firmly believe that the Palestinian people have a right to dignity, security, and self-determination.

I also believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s actions in the Middle East have deeply undermined these efforts and recklessly escalated tensions in the region. His government’s actions have not advanced the cause of peace or security and have instead left both Israelis and Palestinians less safe. I do not see how we can continue down this path without a course correction.

I recognize that Rep. Massie’s amendment is not a serious effort to solve the current state of affairs in the Middle East. It’s also clear to me that the Republicans and the President have long ago ceased to want to take this historically bipartisan issue seriously, and to thoughtfully engage with Democrats to provide the leadership necessary to find a path forward to ending the violence, rebuilding Gaza, and securing the region.

My vote in favor of the Massie amendment is simply a vote for that course correction.

A year ago today, the Trump administration unleashed on our community one of its most reckless and sweeping immigration enforcement operations to date.

Peaceful protesters and innocent civilians were caught in the crosshairs of the Glass House raids, which separated hundreds of families from their loved ones and resulted in one of the first casualties of this administration's cruel, hateful, and deeply inhumane immigration agenda, one rooted in racism, xenophobia, and fear instead of justice, compassion, and the rule of law.

We remember Jaime Garcia, a father and a farmworker who was fatally injured while running in fear for his life. Jaime, like the overwhelming majority of immigrants, came to this country to support his family, and he worked tirelessly as part of the invisible workforce that strengthens our local and national economies.

Jaime's death, and the deaths of countless others resulting from DHS and ICE operations, are the deeply tragic cost of a broken immigration system, one that prioritizes punishment over compassion and leaves no space for humanity. In abusing this failing system to score political points and sow hatred and division, Donald Trump has trampled on our most basic constitutional and human rights.

One year later, this cruelty has not stopped. As communities mourn Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a husband, father, and construction worker who was fatally shot by an ICE agent while on his way to work in Houston, hundreds have taken to the streets demanding an independent investigation, accountability, and justice. His death is yet another reminder that this administration's immigration agenda continues to inflict irreversible harm on families and communities across our country.

It is heartbreaking that this is happening in the United States of America. No one should have to live in fear of their own government or wonder whether they will make it home safely to their family at the end of the day. Government should safeguard our rights and freedoms, not instill fear in the communities it is meant to serve.

We must enact comprehensive immigration reform that reflects our nation's values, upholds our commitment to justice, protects due process, and recognizes the dignity and humanity of every person. We cannot allow this cruelty to become normalized. We must demand transparency, accountability, and justice for every life lost. Federal agents who abuse their authority and violate the law must be held accountable. No badge, no office, and no administration is above the law.

Today and every day, we will continue fighting for an immigration system rooted in humanity, justice, and the rule of law, while holding this administration accountable for policies that have dehumanized immigrant communities and undermined the fundamental rights and freedoms that define our democracy.

DACA opened doors and opportunities for hundreds of thousands of young people who call America home. DACA recipients have done everything asked of them. They came forward, passed background checks, and placed their trust in a promise that they could build their lives in the country they love.

That promise is being broken. Here in Ventura County, my office has seen a dramatic increase in requests for help from DACA recipients whose renewal applications have been delayed. Many report that these unnecessary delays are jeopardizing their ability to work, with some already losing their jobs and others at immediate risk of doing so. As they grapple with financial insecurity, they also live with the constant fear of being separated from the only home they have ever known.

The Trump administration, under the guise of immigration enforcement, is deliberately delaying and denying DACA renewals in an effort to meet its cruel and unlawful deportation quotas. These bureaucratic delays are inflicting real harm on hardworking people, families, employers, and communities across Ventura County and throughout the country.

For more than a decade, DACA recipients have strengthened our economy, enriched our communities, and made our nation stronger. Congress must finally provide permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship. No one, and especially not Donald Trump, should be allowed to take away their opportunity to build a future in the country they call home.

People who came to the country illegally as young children are losing jobs because of DACA renewal delays.

It's been one year since Donald Trump signed his One Big Ugly Bill (H.R. 1) into law. Even though H.R. 1's most dangerous provisions do not take effect until after the upcoming midterm elections — a pathetic ploy to offset Trump's growing unpopularity — this bill has already unleashed havoc on working families.

H.R. 1 enacted the largest cuts to health care in American history, and more than 8 million Americans have lost their coverage while tens of millions more have seen their health insurance costs skyrocket. Americans are being forced to choose between getting the care they need and paying for basic necessities. As more hospitals close due to the severity of these funding cuts, many families will lose that choice altogether.

The Big Ugly Bill also gutted food assistance, kicking more than 4 million Americans, including nearly 1 million children, off SNAP. As Trump's disastrous leadership and reckless economic policies keep grocery prices high, families are struggling to put food on the table.

Instead of lowering costs or expanding opportunity, Trump and Congressional Republicans have prioritized tax giveaways for billionaires and big corporations, waged reckless foreign conflicts, and carried out violent mass deportations and detentions that have torn families apart and undermined our communities.

Our communities deserve better, and that is why House Democrats are fighting for a future that actually works for working families. As we push back against this administration's brazen corruption and misplaced priorities, we will continue advancing commonsense solutions that lower costs, expand opportunity, strengthen our economy, protect our democracy, and ensure every American has a fair chance to succeed.
