1 in 6 kids in the U.S. experiences a mental health issue each year.

As we near the end of #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, I support the Biden admin’s efforts to expand telehealth access and deliver mental health care to our children with $14.2 million in #AmericanRescuePlan funds.

Manuel Ellis should be alive today. Washington state AG’s decision to file charges against the police officers involved in his death is a step towards accountability.

We have a lot of work to do to rebuild trust between police and all of the communities that depend on them—that starts by passing the George Floyd #JusticeInPolicing Act.

January 6 will go down as one of the darkest days in our nation's history. We must know all of the facts surrounding and leading up to this deadly attack and assault on our democracy. I am disgusted that so many of my Republican colleagues have put political expedience before our country.

Belarus’ state-sanctioned hijacking of a commercial flight with a jet fighter, arrest of journalist Roman Protasevich, and unlawful detainment of passengers, including U.S. citizens, are alarming and demand a strong response. I’m calling for a thorough investigation with Congressman Eric Swalwell. This unprecedented attack on international free press and civil aviation security must be addressed immediately.

Pleased that President Joe Biden is supporting my plan to expand the Housing Credit in the #AmericanJobsPlan. The Housing Credit is a proven tool that would help develop over 2 million affordable housing units over the next decade.

Through the proposed expansion, we can build more affordable housing to help ensure everyone has a safe and affordable place to call home.

Our country should never turn a blind eye to human rights violations happening here or abroad.

That’s why I am co-sponsoring the #ReproRightsAreHumanRights Act, which will require the U.S. Department of State to report on reproductive rights in their annual Human Rights Report.

Tragedies like the San Jose shooting must stop.

The Senate needs to take up the bipartisan gun reform legislation that the House recently passed, and we must do more to end this horrific gun violence epidemic.

The rise in antisemitic attacks here in the U.S. and abroad is unacceptable. No one should fear violence because of their cultural background or religious beliefs.

We must stand united in condemning all forms of bigotry and racism.

Biden doubles funding to prepare for natural disasters, keeping climate change in focus

Climate change is exacerbating the intensity and frequency of wildfires in our region.

I applaud the Biden administration’s decision to double FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency’s emergency response budget so that we can better prepare and respond to natural disasters.

As hurricane season looms, President Biden will announce he's directing $1 billion into natural disaster mitigation resources and to develop new climate data systems.

President Biden signs Alaska tourism act to allow cruise ships to visit the state this year

Earlier this week, the Alaska Tourism Restoration Act was signed into law, making it easier for cruise ships to travel between Washington and Alaska again. This law will boost local tourism and support our economy, consistent with CDC guidelines, as we begin to reemerge from this crisis.

President Joe Biden signed the Alaska Tourism Restoration Act into law which will allow cruise ships to visit Alaska.

Our dairy farmers deserve the opportunities we secured for them in the USMCA trade agreement, and we must ensure that Canada follows through on its commitments.

I want to thank the Biden admin for responding quickly to our letter by initiating this investigation and holding our trading partners accountable.

A year ago, the murder of George Floyd brought national attention to the treatment of Black Americans at the hands of police. While we have made progress, we must keep working.

The Senate must pass the George Floyd #JusticeInPolicing Act and ensure injustices like this do not happen again.

Our caregivers have been on the frontlines of the pandemic, and it’s our turn to fight for them with the #AmericanJobsPlan.

By improving our country’s care infrastructure and providing our caregivers with better benefits, wages, and working conditions, we can strengthen our economy and make care more accessible.

05/23/2021

The average annual cost of child care for toddlers in Washington is $13,500—a price tag too many families struggle to pay. The #AmericanFamiliesPlan will make child care more accessible to lower- and middle-income families so they can make ends meet and will expand care options in our rural communities.

Washington launching 988 hotline for mental health emergencies

#MentalHealthMonth reminds us that our work to end the stigma is not over.

We must keep working together to raise awareness and ensure that everyone has access to the support they need.

Grateful that Washington will have a new statewide emergency hotline, 988, starting July 2022 to help provide support to those experiencing a behavioral health crisis.

It's like 911, but for suicide prevention and mental health crises. The nationwide 988 system launches next year.

In Washington state, the expanded #ChildTaxCredit that I fought for in the #AmericanRescuePlan will benefit 1.4 million children and is estimated to reduce childhood poverty by 40%.

This can’t just be a year-long investment—we need to make the benefit permanent for lasting change.

The right to safe and legal abortions and the freedom to make personal health choices should not be up for debate.

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to take up a key abortion case next term concerning a controversial Mississippi law that banned most abortions after 15 weeks, rekindling a potentially major challenge to Roe v. Wade at the majority conservative court.
