Today is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks. We remember those nearly 3,000 innocent Americans who were murdered in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania that morning. I join the American people in prayer as we pay our respects to those brave men and women who were senselessly taken from us, as well as to thank the brave first responders who heroically responded. We will never forget. The resolve of America remains, “Let’s Roll.”

One year ago today, our nation was horrified by the senseless assassination of Charlie Kirk. Violence has no place in this country. Today we remember Charlie, honor his life, and commit ourselves to resolving political differences through debate and democracy, not violence. My prayers continue to be with the Kirk family.

Grateful to have met with Board Chair, JB Beckett, and others, at the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce Business Breakfast where David Beaty, Senior Principal at Stantec, spoke about the Lexington Countywide Transportation Improvement Plan. This plan aims to address local road needs including traffic and safety. I appreciate the important role the Chamber plays in bringing businesses and community leaders together, fostering strong partnerships, creating opportunities for businesses to thrive.

I spoke on the House floor about how I am grateful that under the pro-growth agenda of President Donald Trump, and backed by Republicans, Governor Henry McMaster, Speaker Murrell Smith, and Senate President Thomas Alexander, South Carolina is one of the fastest growing states in America, driven by the creation of jobs and affordability. South Carolina’s gross domestic product is $393 billion, increasing by $26 billion since the current Trump administration. Promises Made, Promises Kept.

On this day in 1945, World War II ended with the formal surrender of Japan. We recognize and commemorate the brave service of Americans who served, were wounded, and made the ultimate sacrifice.

For 250 years, America has fought to defend personal freedoms for each citizen. I spoke on the House floor about how, sadly, socialism is gaining popularity among Americans, particularly those in the Democratic Party and younger voters. Socialism puts government in control, replacing faith, families, and small businesses, destroying jobs. America must defend free enterprise, private ownership, and freedom over control, not defend big government.

Roxanne and I join Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook, the Columbia Police Department, and the community in offering our prayers to the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Christopher DeLong. Our thoughts are also with Officer David Dymock as we wish him a speedy recovery. God Bless the men and women of Law Enforcement who put their lives on the line everyday to keep us safe.

An officer and the suspect have died after a shooting at a Columbia park, authorities announced at a press conference Aug. 29. Another officer present at the incident remains in stable condition.

I enjoyed attending the Rotary Club of Aiken meeting this week and hearing from Mark Ward, organizer of the Aiken Walk to End Alzheimer’s. I am grateful to be a cosponsor of the ASAP Act, which would require Medicare to cover FDA-approved tests for early detection of Alzheimer’s. We must continue supporting research focused on prevention, early detection, and effective treatments to help improve the lives of those affected by this disease.
