Marshall is getting ready for Fire Prevention Month!

Our favorite Paw Patrol firefighter recently stopped by the Carroll County Department of Fire & EMS Logistics Division to make sure everything was ready for the busy month ahead… and, of course, he had one very important mission: finding some treats!

Marshall may be small, but he’s already got his paws on fire prevention!

Stay tuned as we get ready to bring Fire Prevention Month to our county with education, safety, and plenty of fun!

A POWERFUL RESOURCE RIGHT HERE IN CARROLL COUNTY! Operation Second Stride

This morning, Carroll County Department of Fire & EMS Assistant Chief Eric Zaney and Firefighter/Paramedic Jessica Jacobs, along with members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, had the opportunity to learn more about an incredible resource available right here in our community — Operation Second Stride!

Located at Renaissance Farm in Taneytown, Operation Second Stride is a nonprofit organization providing free equine-assisted therapy to first responders, healthcare professionals, and families of fallen firefighters.

The program uses time with horses to help participants slow down, become more aware of their nervous system, practice breathing and self-regulation, and simply breathe, reset, and reconnect.

For those who spend their days responding to people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, having a safe and supportive place to step away, decompress, and reconnect can be incredibly meaningful.

The horses become a powerful form of biofeedback — responding to changes in our breathing, energy, and nervous system. No judgment. No pressure. Just an opportunity to be present.

Carroll County is fortunate to have organizations like Operation Second Stride investing in the people who serve our community.

We are excited to learn more about this program and explore how we can connect our Fire & EMS personnel and public safety partners with this amazing resource.

🐴 Breathe. Reset. Connect.

Thank you to Stacie Nichols and the entire Operation Second Stride team for welcoming us and sharing what you are doing for our first responders and healthcare professionals!

Meet Diesel!
Carroll County Department of Fire & EMS & Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association Therapy Dog

Diesel is a Labrador/Samoyed mix who has quickly become a favorite around the Carroll County Department of Fire & EMS. Whether he’s assisting with Fire & EMS training programs, hanging out at the firehouses, or simply making his rounds to check on everyone, Diesel has a special way of bringing a little extra joy to our day.

His favorite activities include:
Tug-of-war
Holding hands… or should we say, paws
Eating ice
Chasing his tail
Hanging out at the firehouses
Being part of Fire & EMS training programs

But as much as Diesel enjoys all of those things, his most important job is simply making us feel better.

In a profession where our personnel routinely face stress, difficult calls, long days, and challenging moments, sometimes all it takes is a wagging tail, a big furry head, and a paw to remind us to take a breath and smile.

Diesel may not know how to run a call, operate a fire engine, or provide patient care—but he has mastered something just as important:

He makes people feel good.

Thank you, Diesel, for being part of the Carroll County Fire & EMS family! Special thanks to his mom & handler Christina for sharing him with all of us.
