POV: A bat has entered the house and you need to handle the situation quickly and confidently. 🦇

When it comes to bats and rabies, play it safe. Make the calls!

1. Call Animal Control for guidance.

If anyone had contact with the bat, was sleeping when the bat was in the house, or if you aren't sure, you may need to trap the bat. Use heavy gloves and a container with a lid that has holes in it. Approach the bat slowly once it has landed, cover it with the container, and slide the lid underneath it.

If you are certain that the bat had no contact with people or pets in the house, they may suggest that you trap the bat in a room and open a window. The bat will find the opening and exit on its own.

2. Contact the Health Department for a rabies risk assessment if there was any possible contact with the bat.
