🚨The Area, will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) / driver license checkpoint on August 27th, 2026, from 9:30 pm - 2:00 am, within the area of northbound Montecito Road, south of Copa De Oro Drive.

All too often, members of the community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by intoxicated drivers. The CHP’s goal is to ensure the safe passage of each and every motorist by targeting roads where there is a high frequency of intoxicated drivers. A sobriety/driver license checkpoint is a proven effective tool for achieving this goal and is designed to augment existing patrol operations. Motorists approaching the checkpoint will see informational signs advising them that a sobriety checkpoint is ahead. Once diverted into the lane, motorists will be detained only a few moments while an officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint. Drivers found to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs can expect to be placed under arrest. Drivers who are unlicensed or have had their driving privileges suspended, will be cited and could have their vehicles towed.

By publicizing our efforts, we hope to deter motorists from drinking and driving and driving without a valid driver license. Remember: Drive sober, plan ahead, and help keep our roads safe for everyone.

It's National Brake Safety Week!

Good brakes can make all the difference when you need to stop quickly.

This week, take a minute to check your brakes. If you notice squeaking, grinding, vibrations, a soft brake pedal, or your vehicle pulling when braking, it may be time for an inspection.

Don't wait until there's a problem. Make sure your vehicle is ready to stop safely before you hit the road.

August is Back to School Safety Month. As students head back to school, let's work together to keep every trip a safe one.

• Slow down in school zones and obey posted speed limits.
• Stop for school buses when required.
• Watch for children crossing streets.
• Put the phone away and stay focused behind the wheel.
• Give extra space to students walking or riding their bikes.

A few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference. Let's help every student arrive safely this school year. 🚌

Every child deserves a safe ride!

Last weekend, officers responded to crash alongside personnel from . Children were involved in the crash, but thankfully they were not seriously injured. This incident serves as a reminder that when properly installed, child passenger safety seats are effective in keeping children safe and saving lives.

California law states that all children under 8 years of age must be properly restrained in an appropriate child safety seat in the back seat of the vehicle. (27360(a) CVC).

Contact your local CHP office for an appointment to have your child safety seats inspected and to learn how to properly install your child safety seats from one of the CHP’s specially trained Child Safety Seat Technicians, free of charge.
