The Westport Fire Department is an organization of 23 full-time firefighters and 20 call-firefighters protecting the coastal Town of Westport, Massachusetts. Westport has a population of roughly 15,000 year round residents, which increases to around 25,000 in the summer months. Our response area is 64 square miles. Included in those 64 square miles is 35 miles of coastline made up of ponds, rivers, and an ocean. Westport Firefighters work around the clock manning the following apparatus out of two fire stations:

1 Ladder Truck
1 Forestry Truck
1 Special Operations Unit
1 Rescue Jet Ski

● A Flood Watch has been issued for all of Eastern MA
RI through 2 AM Tuesday.
● The Wind Advisory has been expanded to include all of MA through noon Sunday.
● Storm Warnings have been extended through 10am

* WHAT...Northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts 45 to 60 mph expected.

* WHERE...The eastern Massachusetts coast as well as the south coasts of both Rhode Island and
Massachusetts.

* WHEN...From 8 AM Friday to 2 AM EDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS..The long duration of the winds coupled with heavy rain and fully leafed trees may exacerbate the risk for tree damage and power outages.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
People are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind.

Here is the latest storm briefing from the NWS Boston for the Nor’Easter that will impact the region Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

💨Wind: A High Wind Watch is in effect for Fri and Sat along the coast, with wind gusts of 40-50 mph, reaching up to 55 mph across Cape Cod and the Islands.Fully leafed trees will lower the threshold for impacts, potentially causing downed limbs and some power outages.

🌊Coastal Flood Potential: Coastal erosion and minor coastal flooding are likely along the east coast, and will likely be worse across Cape Cod and Nantucket. A change to the storm track could bring impacts to the south coast which will be monitored.

⛈️Rainfall: Two to four inches of rain is possible across eastern MA, However, since this will be stretched out over 2-3 days, significant flooding is not expected; expect more nuisance-type flooding and ponding of water on roadways.

Today is the day to secure your property, including marine vessels. While a coastal flood watch or warning has not yet been issued for our area, have a plan in place if you are in a flood prone area and prepare to move to higher ground.
