Westport Firefighters just cleared the scene of a structure fire on Robert Street.

The fire, which appears to be electrical in nature, self extinguished at some point during the day. While the home suffered significant smoke and soot damage, it could have been much worse had it not ran out of fuel and self extinguished. A dog in the home suffered smoke inhalation, but thankfully it appears he will be okay.

Firefighters vented smoke and CO from the structure and checked for extension in the walls and attic space. Our EMA Division and the American Red Cross are assisting the homeowners with the next steps in the recovery process.

We thank Tiverton Fire for their assistance.

In addition to this call, today’s crew have been busy handling multiple calls since 0800, including a near drowning this afternoon.
