Are you a caregiver of a child who was exposed to or diagnosed with hepatitis C?

Caregivers may include parents, guardians, foster parents, grandparents, adoptive parents, or other family members involved in the child’s care.

We are looking for caregivers with personal experience to join an advisory group for a research project at West Virginia University. The project focuses on improving care and follow-up for infants and children exposed to hepatitis C.

As an advisory member, you would share your perspective to help what we do be appropriate for others with similar experiences. Your input will help shape future research and improve care for other children and families.

Information shared as part of this advisory role will be used to guide the research project and improve future care approaches. It will not be used to make decisions about custody, guardianship, caregiving arrangements, or services/supports your family receives.

Advisory group time commitment: Two meetings, approximately 2 hours each — one in July and one in January.

In addition to advisory board members, we are looking for individuals to engage more often with our research project team. This role would be similar but involve one-hour meetings once per month for one year, for a total of 12 meetings from July 2026 through June 2027.

Project team time commitment: One-hour monthly meetings for 12 months.

We are so proud of our colleagues at NAMI for receiving a very well-deserved national award.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in West Virginia has been named the 2026 Outstanding NAMI Affiliate of the Year, one of the highest honors awarded by NAMI National, during the organization’s national convention in Atlanta, Georgia.

The national award recognizes a local NAMI affiliate that demonstrates exceptional leadership, meaningful community impact, outreach to diverse populations and outstanding stewardship of NAMI's mission. NAMI in West Virginia was selected from hundreds of affiliates across the United States.

"For years, NAMI in West Virginia has shown what is possible when a dedicated team, volunteers, advocates and community members come together around a shared mission," said Julie Gomez, Executive Director of NAMI West Virginia. "Our team’s unwavering commitment to supporting individuals and families affected by mental illness, reducing stigma and building a stronger community has made an impact not only in West Virginia, but now serves as a model for affiliates across the country."

The recognition comes as NAMI in West Virginia continues to expand access to free mental health education, support groups, advocacy and resources for individuals and families throughout the Mountain State.

“This award is a testament to the work happening every day across the state and belongs to every volunteer, facilitator, board member, donor, partner and participant who has helped build NAMI in West Virginia into what it is today," said Erin Stoddart, board member for NAMI in West Virginia. "We are honored by this recognition and remain committed to ensuring that no one in the Mountain State faces a mental health condition alone."

NAMI in West Virginia provides free programs, support groups, educational opportunities and advocacy efforts designed to improve the lives of people affected by mental health conditions. The affiliate has become a trusted resource for individuals and families seeking support, information and hope while helping lead important conversations around mental health throughout the region.

Some of our CASA team are at West Virginia Wesleyan this week. They are participating in the WVWC Center for Addiction & Trauma 2026 Summer Institute!

West Virginia Wesleyan has reformatted their technology that officers utilize to practice training in virtual reality platforms to allow our CASA Volunteers practice experiences as a CASA Volunteer.

You may have seen news reports or social media posts relating to recent statements by Governor Morrisey and we want to provide you with facts and the assurance that we will remain fully operational through June 30.

Family Support Centers are part of the solution.

Across West Virginia, FSCs help families access concrete supports before challenges become crises, keeping children safely with their families, strengthening communities, and reducing the need for more costly interventions later.

The Legislature approved level funding for FSCs and FRNs, but contracts for the new fiscal year have still not been released. With current contracts ending June 30, many programs across the state face uncertainty about whether services can continue on July 1.

We encourage community members, partners, and elected officials to learn more about the role Family Support Centers play in prevention, family stability, and supporting children right here in West Virginia.
