Stay informed about key issues in your life! Be proactive.

Know about your health - you need to be your own best health
care advocate!
Your care receiver's / care partner's health - same as above.
Caregivers often become the advocate.

Be prepared when visiting health care providers. It's helpful to have 2 sets of ears at appointments. Take notes. Go into the appointment with a list of questions.

Get your advance directives and legal documents prepared. Medical Power of Attorney, Living Will, Durable Power of Attorney, and a Will are documents to consider. Some states have a Transfer on Death provision.

Do you need an Elder Law Attorney to complete your legal documents? What is your financial situation (ie: income, assets, gas / oil / mineral rights, etc) ? What is your family situation (ie: blended family, ex-spouses)? Will Medicaid be a consideration for long-term care? Consider seeking legal counsel.

Think about a Pre-Need Funeral plan. This takes a huge burden off a grieving family.

Stay informed about services that can help you remain independent. Talk to friends who have needed assistance. Call your county senior center for information. Go to educational programs and health fairs that have information on services.

Learn what you can and be prepared. Time has a way of catching up to us!

It is really hot.
Do NOT leave animals or kids in your car!! Not with the windows open. Just do not leave them in the car. Period.
Check on your friends and relatives.
Hydrate. Drink a lot of water.
Watch your time in the sun.

Take care. This is literally killer weather.
