What does "community" truly look like? For the Whippany Fire Department, it looks like this.
Over the past few days, you may have seen our own Tom Braviak quietly working in the cemetery. He takes it upon himself to clean and restore the funeral plaques of some of our deceased members, ensuring their final resting places are cared for with dignity.
This morning, the torch was passed to the next generation. Our current members, alongside their children, were out placing American flags throughout the grounds, honoring every veteran resting there.
This is the spirit of the fire service. We watch out for one another—past and present. We pass these values of respect and service on to our kids. And we honor those who served our country.
As we go into Memorial Day weekend and look forward to the parade on Monday, let us all pause to remember the men and women who gave their ultimate life and sacrifice to help one another and serve our nation. That is an amazing and touching legacy, and that is what the fire service is about.
Please join us on Monday for the Memorial Day Parade as we collectively remember and honor our heroes.
