For more than eight years, Ms. Christie has created a home where children feel welcomed, supported, and cared for during some of the most uncertain moments in their lives.

She has helped sibling groups stay together, supported children as they transitioned into forever homes, and, along the way, adopted her own daughter. Her story reflects the lasting impact that consistency, encouragement, and a safe environment can have on a child.

Many foster parents begin by simply wanting to learn more about how they can help. With the right support and guidance, ordinary people can create extraordinary stability for children who need it most.

Five years ago, the Palumbo Vasquez family welcomed children into their home and into their hearts.

Since then, they have adopted five children, including sibling groups they have cared for since the very beginning. Through every challenge and milestone, they have continued to provide love, stability, and unwavering support to the children in their care.

Foster care journeys often begin with a simple willingness to learn more and take the first step. With training, resources, and ongoing support, families can create spaces where children feel safe, cared for, and connected during some of the most important moments of their lives.

Understanding the risks is the first step toward prevention. Anyone can be affected by opioid misuse, but certain factors, like chronic pain, mental health challenges, past trauma, or family history of substance use, may increase vulnerability.

By knowing the risks, we can better protect ourselves, our families, and our community.

With we’re committed to raising awareness, sharing resources, and ensuring support is within reach for those who need it most.

For the past 11 years, Ms. Hill has been a steady and loving presence for the children placed in her care.

She has adopted seven children and continues to open her home to children with complex medical needs, providing the patience, consistency, and support they deserve every single day.
 
Stories like Ms. Hill’s remind us that foster care is not about having all the answers before starting. Many foster parents begin with uncertainty, curiosity, and a desire to help. With the right support system, guidance, and training, families are able to create environments where children feel safe enough to simply be kids.
