🚨 SPECIAL GUEST IN THE EOC 🚨

Turns out when Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins is back home in Yuba City, he doesn’t stay on the sidelines.

This week, we were able to recruit The Hawk to spend some time in the Sutter County Emergency Operations Center, where he helped keep an eye on the big picture, monitor incoming information, and make sure our coffee supply remained mission ready.

Fortunately, there are no major emergencies to report, so his biggest challenge was deciding who makes the best coffee in the EOC. (The debate is still ongoing.)

Thanks for stopping by, Hawk. You’re welcome back anytime.

Because even hometown legends know that preparedness starts long before the sirens.

The Sutter County Board of Supervisors recently presented members of the Office of Emergency Management with a proclamation recognizing September 2025 as National Preparedness Month.

The annual campaign is meant to raise awareness about resources available to the community and how best to prepare for and respond to a disaster.

"Preparedness starts at home," said Zachary Hamill, emergency operations manager for the Sutter County Office of Emergency Management. "Having an emergency preparedness kit, building a plan, and being informed about where to get information and how to get information is critical."

Sutter County to receive $1.5 million for upgraded public safety radio equipment

The Sutter County Board of Supervisors has authorized the County to accept and move forward with $1.5 million in federal funding that will be used to purchase new public safety radios for first responders across the county.

The new radios will allow law enforcement, fire personnel and other emergency responders to communicate more easily with one another and with neighboring counties during emergencies. That means faster coordination, better communication and a more effective response when every second counts.

The upgraded equipment will be especially valuable in Sutter County's rural areas, where reliable communication can be more challenging, helping first responders stay connected wherever they are needed.

The federal funding request, which was secured through the FY 2026 COPS Technology and Equipment Program, was developed by the County of Sutter Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and supported by Senator Alex Padilla, whose office helped secure this important investment in the safety of our community.

The new radios are expected to be purchased, programmed and deployed to first responders by the end of 2026, giving emergency personnel the tools they need to communicate more effectively when our community needs them most.

PSPS Update: Power Restored

PG&E has restored power to all customers in Sutter County impacted by the Public Safety Power Shutoff event.

The Community Resource Center located at the Sutter Youth Organization building on Butte House Road is now closed.

Now that power has been restored, residents are encouraged to:

✅ Check refrigerated and frozen food for safety
✅ Recharge phones, medical devices, and backup batteries
✅ Restock any emergency supplies used during the outage
✅ Review your backup power and outage plan before the next emergency

We appreciate our residents and community partners for their patience and assistance throughout this PSPS event. We do not anticipate any additional impacts from this PSPS event in the days ahead. If the situation changes, we will notify you as soon as possible.
