Gauteng and Free State TVET & CET Colleges QCTO Capacity-Building Workshop continued with an insightful overview of the role of the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) in the implementation of occupational qualifications.

The session, led by QCTO Director: Quality Assurance, Mr Charles P**e, highlighted key components that colleges need to consider to ensure the effective and successful implementation of occupational qualifications and programmes.
Mr P**e emphasised the importance of building and strengthening partnerships with industry to support the delivery of occupational programmes and ensure that learning remains responsive to workplace requirements.

He further highlighted the need for TVET and CET lecturers to transition from traditional teaching approaches towards new modes of facilitating learning, enabling them to better support learners within the occupational education and training environment.

The discussions continue to strengthen institutional capacity and promote collaboration towards quality, relevant, and industry-responsive occupational education and training.

Strengthening Stakeholder Understanding of the QCTO Accreditation Process, Mr Deon Nel and Ms Nthabiseng Ramcwana from the QCTO Accreditation Domain guided delegates through the accreditation application process, highlighting the importance of meeting all compliance requirements and submitting the necessary supporting documentation.
The session also provided valuable guidance on the appeal process should an accreditation application receive a decline outcome.

Stakeholders were advised that, upon receiving a decline letter, they must submit the completed appeal form together with the required supporting documentation, as outlined in the decline letter, within 10 working days of receipt.

The engagement provided stakeholders with greater clarity on both the accreditation requirements and the steps to follow should an appeal be necessary.

The QCTO TVET and CET Capacity Building Workshop for the Gauteng and Free State regions is currently underway at Tshwane South TVET College’s Pretoria West Campus.

Our delegates were warmly welcomed by DHET Regional Director, Ms Bellinah Mulaudzi who highlighted that these workshops supports TVET and CET Colleges in strengthening their compliance with QCTO quality assurance processes, including accreditation applications for full & part qualifications and skills programmes, the submission of permission letters, and applications for assessment centres.

Through these capacity-building engagements, the QCTO continues to strengthen the institutional capabilities of TVET and CET Colleges, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to effectively implement occupational qualifications and uphold quality assurance standards.
