| NKANGALA AND GERT SIBANDE BRING LOCAL PRIORITIES TO THE NATIONAL FOOD AND NUTRITION SECURITY PLAN.
The National Department of Agriculture is concluding the Mpumalanga leg of consultations on the National Food and Nutrition Security Plan (NFNSP) 2025–2033 with stakeholders from Nkangala and Gert Sibande Districts convening in Middelburg.
The engagement follows the consultation in Ehlanzeni and provides an opportunity for stakeholders from the province’s remaining districts to share local food and nutrition security challenges, priorities and practical solutions.
The National Food and Nutrition Security Survey provides important context for these engagements. The Household Hunger Scale (HHS) found that 71.8% of sampled households in Mpumalanga experienced little to no hunger, while 20.6% experienced moderate hunger and 7.7% experienced severe hunger.
These findings, together with district-level inputs, help build a clearer picture of food and nutrition security across the province and inform priorities for strengthening household food production, improving access to safe and nutritious food, supporting local food systems and building resilient livelihoods.
As Mpumalanga concludes its consultations today, inputs from Ehlanzeni, Nkangala and Gert Sibande will contribute to shaping a comprehensive and responsive NFNSP that reflects the different realities and priorities of districts across the province.
From local evidence to local solutions, Mpumalanga’s districts are helping shape the national food and nutrition security response.
