ZAMBIA RUGBY SEVENS INTENSIFIES AFRICA CUP PREPARATIONS WITH PRETORIA TRAINING CAMP

The Zambia Rugby Sevens national team on Friday paid a courtesy call on Zambia's High Commissioner to South Africa, Her Excellency Ms Grace Mutembo, in Pretoria ahead of the Africa Cup Sevens tournament in Mauritius.

The training camp in South Africa forms part of the team's preparations for the Africa Cup Sevens tournament.

Leading the delegation was Team Manager Mr Fine Chikamba.

Also in attendance were Head Coach Musonda Kaminsa, Assistant Coach Mwamba Chishimba, Development Coach Ronald Chipanta and Team Physio Lewis Kapinga.

The players and technical bench have been training at Harlequins Rugby Club in Pretoria before returning to Lusaka for the final phase of preparations.

Deputy High Commissioner Ms Ruth Dante separately visited the team's training base and met the players and members of the technical staff.

The squad is expected to leave for Mauritius on June 18 ahead of the two-day tournament, which will bring together teams from across the continent.

We have received with deep sadness, the passing of His Majesty Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV of the Ngoni people.

His Majesty was a revered custodian of Ngoni culture and heritage, and a unifying symbol of Zambia's rich cultural diversity. His distinguished service and leadership will remain an enduring part of our national heritage.

The SADC Ministers of Foreign Affairs Retreat is being held in Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga, South Africa from 22nd to 24th May 2026.
The retreat is being convened to assess the implications of the ongoing global geopolitical developments on the SADC region. The retreat seeks to identify coordinated responses aimed at strengthening regional resilience in the face of threats occasioned by external shocks affecting the region.
Deliberations are centred on identifying key sectors and regional projects that could be jointly developed as launchpads for building regional resilience against external shocks.
Zambia is a member of the SADC Troika which comprises South Africa as Chair , Zimbabwe as Outgoing Chair and Zambia as Deputy and Incoming chair.
As incoming Chair, Zambia is expected to host the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government in Lusaka in August 2027 and assume the position of Chair of the organization.
The Zambian Delegation is being led by Ms Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen Permanent Secretary - International Relations and Cooperation who is accompanied by Zambia’s High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa and other Senior Government Officials.
