ZAMBIAN CHAMPIONS POWER DYNAMOS ARRIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA

Power Dynamos Football Club arrived safely in South Africa on Friday for an intensive pre-season training camp in Pretoria.

The team was welcomed at its hotel by officials from the Zambia High Commission, led by Police Liaison Officer Mr Joshua Chisenga.

The Kitwe-based club will use the camp to improve fitness, strengthen team coordination and play friendly matches against South African teams.

The reigning MTN Super League champions, coached by Osward Mutapa, are preparing to defend their domestic league title and represent Zambia in the CAF Champions League.

The club will be aiming for a third consecutive league title.

The Zambia High Commission welcomes Power Dynamos to South Africa and wishes the team a successful training camp and football season.

ZAMBIA HIGH COMMISSION SUPPORTS 16 STUDENTS IN TOOLING PROGRAMME

The Zambia High Commission in Pretoria has visited 16 Zambian students undertaking a four-year tooling programme at the Production Technologies Association of South Africa (PtSA).

The visit allowed Mission officials to meet the students, follow their academic progress and understand the support they may need while studying in South Africa.

The students are sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education through the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA).

First Secretary for Education, Dr. Francis Chishala, led the Mission’s delegation and was accompanied by Second Secretary for Protocol, Mrs. Christabel Gutinyu.

The delegation was received by the PtSA Production and Technical team, who briefed the officials on the programme and the students’ training.

Zambia, South Africa Strengthen Military Health Cooperation

The Defence School of Health Sciences in Zambia has welcomed two South African military personnel under a reciprocal nursing exchange programme between the two countries.

Lance Corporal Ernest Mafole of 1 Military Hospital and Private Tlhalefo Kumalo of the Area Military Health Unit in the Eastern Cape will undertake a three-year Diploma in Nursing programme in Zambia.

Their arrival follows the departure of three Zambian military students for South Africa in January 2026 to pursue similar training.

The exchange is part of the wider cooperation between the Zambian and South African defence forces.

The two countries work together in military health training and several other areas of defence.

ZAMBIA, MBEKI FOUNDATION EXPLORE PRESERVATION OF KAUNDA’S LEGACY
Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Her Excellency Ms. Grace Mutembo, has paid a courtesy call on former South African President, His Excellency Mr. Thabo Mbeki.

The two exchanged views on the historical relationship between Zambia and South Africa, regional cooperation and the importance of preserving Africa’s shared heritage.

During the meeting, Mr. Mbeki spoke about plans by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation to establish a Pan-African library in South Africa. The proposed library will document the contributions of African leaders and provide a place for research and learning about the continent’s history.

Mr. Mbeki indicated that the Foundation had begun seeking historical material relating to Zambia’s founding President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, whose contribution forms an important part of the shared history of Zambia, South Africa and the wider region.

H.E. Ms. Mutembo welcomed the initiative and noted the value of preserving Africa’s history in a way that encourages greater understanding among its people.

DIPLOMATIC COMMUNITY PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE DR. GUY SCOTT

Members of the diplomatic community have continued to sign the book of condolence opened at the Zambia High Commission in Pretoria following the passing of former Vice-President and Acting President, Dr. Guy Lindsay Scott.

Representatives of various countries visited the Mission today to pay their respects and convey messages of sympathy to the Government and people of Zambia and the family of the late Dr. Scott.

Dr. Scott, who died on 15 July 2026 at the age of 82, served as Zambia’s Vice-President from 2011 to 2014 and later as Acting President from October 2014 to January 2015.

He was accorded a State Funeral and laid to rest at Leopards Hill Memorial Park in Lusaka on Monday, 20 July 2026, following a service at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

ZAMBIA OFFICIALS STRENGTHEN EVIDENCE-BASED POLICY SKILLS AT REGIONAL TRAINING

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - Cabinet Office Permanent Secretary for Policy Analysis and Coordination, Mr. Bernard Kamphasa, and Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary for Investment and Industrialisation, Mr. Crusivia Hichikumba, participated in a regional training programme on Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) held in Johannesburg..

The three-day programme, organised by the Copenhagen Consensus Center, brought together more than 140 senior government officials, policy advisers and analysts from across the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The training focused on strengthening evidence-based policymaking by equipping participants with practical skills in cost-benefit analysis.

Through case studies, policy exercises and AI-supported learning, officials explored approaches to evaluating public investments and setting policy priorities.

The programme also provided an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and discuss ways of improving public sector decision-making to ensure limited resources are directed towards programmes that deliver the greatest benefit to citizens.

ZAMBIA HIGH COMMISSION, WITS BUSINESS SCHOOL EXPLORE AREAS OF COOPERATION

The Zambia High Commission in Pretoria and Wits Business School (WBS) have identified trade, investment, policy research and executive education among key areas for future collaboration aimed at strengthening economic relations between Zambia and South Africa.

During the engagement, the Zambian High Commissioner to South Africa, Her Excellency Ms. Grace Mutembo, paid a courtesy call on Professor Mills Soko, Professor of International Business and Strategy at Wits Business School, and senior faculty members to discuss opportunities for institutional cooperation.

The discussions focused on collaboration in applied policy research, academic exchanges, leadership development and executive education, with particular attention to regional trade, infrastructure development, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and investment promotion.

Her Excellency Ms. Mutembo reaffirmed the High Commission's commitment to building partnerships with academic institutions that generate practical solutions to support economic growth, regional integration and stronger bilateral relations between Zambia and South Africa.
