Attended the workshop below by UNDP👇

Through The Biodiversity Finance Initiative - BIOFIN, UNDP is implementing the Biodiversity Investment Readiness Support Programme in partnership with the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment - Zambia and the United Kingdom Government.

The programme is supporting 15 shortlisted project developers with the skills and tools needed to develop strong proposals that can attract investment.

As part of this support, project developers participated in a capacity-building workshop on financial literacy and modelling, marking the beginning of targeted mentorship and proposal development support. The initiative will strengthen projects across sectors including forestry, agriculture, fisheries, tourism and protected areas.

During the workshop, UNDP Zambia Deputy Resident Representative Mr. Laurent Rudasingwa, delivering remarks on behalf of the Resident Representative Dr. James Wakiaga, emphasized the role of project developers in turning Zambia’s biodiversity commitments into measurable impact.

Dr. Freddie Siangulube, Director of Forestry at the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, also highlighted the importance of practical support to help transform promising ideas into investable initiatives.

“Today’s workshop provides an important opportunity to move from diagnostic assessment to hands-on, practical capacity building that translates into real, fundable projects, Dr. Siangulube said.”

Today, Mansa District Office had the privilege of visiting the farm of Mr. Davies Chitundu, CEO of Wetuna Gardens Lodge, to appreciate his remarkable conservation efforts. Since acquiring the farm over 15 years ago, he has preserved the existing trees and continues to champion sustainable land use. His vision is to develop the area into a destination featuring wildlife, a restaurant, and a venue for functions and events. An inspiring example of conservation and development working hand in hand.

It is inspiring to see young learners developing an appreciation for forestry as a career at an early age. While many children are familiar with professions such as teaching, nursing, and medicine, it is encouraging to see learners exploring the important role forestry plays in environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable livelihoods.
Today's Career Day was a reminder that the future of our forests is in good hands when young minds are exposed to diverse career opportunities. Well done to all the learners who proudly represented different professions.

World Environment Day commemorations in Mansa

Our office was privileged to be part of the adjudication team during both the pre-World Environment Day school debates held on Tuesday and today’s final debate competition organized by Mansa Municipal Council.
The event started with a match past from Army Clinic to Sali Riverside Resort and was attended by Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr. Sikabbuba, The DC Ms. Irene Chivweta, Town Clerk Dr. Josephine, and other stakeholders.

Mansa District Office yesterday conducted a tree nursery management training in Chisongo Area of Chief Mabumba’s Chiefdom. A total of 16 participants attended the training, comprising 14 males and 2 females.
The training session focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills in tree nursery establishment and management for carbon projects. Topics covered included site selection, seed handling, sowing techniques, and general nursery management practices.
Despite the session starting later than planned due to circumstances beyond our control, participants remained committed and actively engaged throughout the training. The group has since agreed to proceed with establishing a community tree nursery in the first week of June as part of promoting environmental conservation and sustainable livelihoods.

A visit to Kabamba Farm along Senama Don Bosco Road today left us inspired

Mr. Charles Kabamba, a passionate farmer and environmental steward, has been preserving trees on his 15 ha farm since 2005. Despite the area being a dambo, he has successfully managed and conserved trees, established a banana plantation, developed fish ponds, and even constructed two classroom blocks aimed at promoting forestry education for visiting schools.

His vision goes beyond farming, it is about conservation, learning, and sustainable land management. We are also looking forward to visiting his 250 ha indigenous forest area, which further reflects his commitment to protecting nature.

Initiatives like these are rare and truly commendable. Having such dedicated individuals in Mansa is a blessing and a great example of community driven environmental conservation.
