👉 Over the past few days, our colleagues at the International Visegrad Fund have been evaluating more than 400 applications submitted under this year’s second grant call.

🟢 We are pleased to see that 18 project proposals were submitted by organisations based in the Western Balkans.

🙏 Interest in cooperation between our two regions continues to grow, supported by the inclusion of Western Balkans applicants as eligible participants and by the expansion of joint initiatives, including the Visegrad Fellowship Programme.

Once again, the Western Balkans Fund team was pleased to contribute to the evaluation process and support the selection of high-quality projects.

The quality, depth and regional relevance of the submitted proposals were particularly impressive, demonstrating the growing potential for stronger cooperation between the Visegrad Group and the Western Balkans.

The journey started in Belgrade.

In June, civil society organisations from across the Western Balkans came together for the Residential Expert Training under Peer to Peer, five days of learning, exchange, and connection around monitoring and evaluation 📊, strategic communication 📣, and countering misinformation 🛡️.

But Belgrade was just the beginning.

Peer to Peer continued with dedicated, tailored mentoring sessions led by our expert trainers.

Over 60 hours ⏳ of one-to-one mentoring delivered — and this stage now concludes with concrete first results ✅: theories of change, stakeholder maps, communication plans, and resilience strategies developed by the participating organisations.

We close July with strong work already behind us and real momentum ahead of the next milestone: study visits to civil society organisations across the EU 🇪🇺.
Reflect. Reshape. Reimpact.

🇪🇺 See you in the EU, Ambassador Gonzato!

🇦🇱 Today, Ambassador Silvio Gonzato concludes his mandate in Tirana with the hope of seeing Albania become a member of the European Union soon. We extend that same wish to our entire Western Balkans Contracting Parties.

🤝 During his tenure, Mr. Gonzato made a significant contribution to strengthening the partnership between the Western Balkans Fund and the European Union.

🇪🇺 A substantial part of the second phase of the WBF–EU Joint Action, as well as the launch of its third phase, coincided with his mandate.

🌱 This period saw the introduction and implementation of important initiatives, including the Empowering Regional Cooperation Grant Scheme, the Grant for Grassroots Initiatives and the Regional Networking and Dialogue Sessions.

🙏 We greatly appreciate his support for the Western Balkans Fund and its mission, and we look forward to building further on the strong foundations established during his mandate.

⭐ We wish Ambassador Gonzato every success in his future endeavour.

🇪🇺 See you in the EU, Ambassador Gonzato!

👩‍🎓👨‍🎓 Tomorrow is World Youth Skills Day. This year's edition is dedicated to the theme "Skills for a Shared Future", preparing young people to thrive as learners, workers, citizens and agents of change.

🎉 At the Western Balkans Fund, this commitment is built into everything we do. Approximately one third of our grants target education and youth cooperation as their primary field of intervention and up to 70% of our support goes to young people under 40.

👉 And we are not stopping there. This September, with the financial support of the Open Society Foundation Western Balkans, we are gearing up to organize the first edition of the Regional Academy on Dialogue and Culture of Cooperation in Tirana, empowering emerging young leaders to take charge, lead the dialogue and shape the culture of cooperation our region needs.

🟢 The countdown is on. This September, the first of our 51 fellows set off under the third edition of the Western Balkans–Visegrad Fellowships.

🤝 41 fellows. Then 45. Now 51. That's 137 researchers connecting two regions, one fellowship at a time.

In total, 17 disciplines, 35+ host institutions and mobility in both directions are part of the third edition of our joint fellowship scheme with the International Visegrad Fund.

We can't wait to see where this transformative program takes them and what they bring back 🎓
