NT Electoral Commission

NT Electoral Commission Official page of the NT Electoral Commission, responsible for conducting Legislative Assembly and Local Government elections in the NT.

The NTEC’s page is monitored between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), with extended hours if necessary during elections. The page has been created to increase public awareness of electoral events in the Northern Territory. As the NTEC is an independent and impartial electoral organisation, there are five simple rules for posting:

1. Please don’t post abou

t politics. As the organisation that conducts Legislative Assembly elections and local government elections in the Northern Territory, we do not comment on candidates, parties or policies. To make sure our page does not influence or prejudice any election, we can’t allow political comments to appear.

2. Please be respectful, and consider other points of view if commenting on a post. We can’t allow content or links to content that could be considered offensive, defamatory, obscene, threatening, or otherwise not appropriate for an audience of all ages.

3. Please don’t post any of your own or anyone else’s personal information. If you need to enrol or check your electoral enrolment, visit www.ntec.nt.gov.au or call 1800 MYVOTE (1800 698 683) and one of our staff will assist you confidentially.

4. Please keep any comments relevant to the NTEC, or the services the NTEC provides.

5. Please don’t spam or try and advertise on our page. We reserve the right to delete any comments that don’t comply with our rules, or which are otherwise deemed inappropriate. Any users who repeatedly break these rules may be blocked. Posts and content attributed to the NTEC are authorised by I. Didn’t vote in the Chan Ward by-election? You may receive a letter from the NT Electoral Commission.

If you receive a letter, you can:

• Tell us where you voted so we can check our records
• Provide a valid and sufficient reason for not voting
• Pay the $25 penalty

You will have 28 days to respond to this letter, if you don’t respond, the matter may be referred to court.

Victoria Daly Regional Council Milngin Ward by-election update
Nominations closed at 12 noon today, and no nominations were received for the Milngin Ward by-election.

In accordance with Regulation 73 of the Local Government (Electoral) Regulations 2008, a new election date will be set to fill the vacancy.

No voting is required at this stage.

We'll announce the new election timetable as soon as it is confirmed.

The NT Electoral Commission has declared the result of the Tiwi Islands Regional Council Milikapiti Ward by-election following the close of nominations.

One nomination was received by the close of nominations at 12 noon on Wednesday 19 August 2026. As the number of nominations did not exceed the number of vacancies, Norman James Tipiloura was declared elected.

As the vacancy has now been filled, no voting will be required.

👋🏿 Tiwi Islands Regional Council residents – Are you interested in representing your community?

Candidate nominations are now open for the Tiwi Islands Regional Council Milikapiti Ward by-election.

Who can nominate as a candidate?
✅ Candidates must be 18 years of age or older
✅ Candidates must be enrolled and have principal residence in the Tiwi Islands Regional Council local government area.
✅ Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements to nominate detailed on the nomination form and not disqualified under section 47 of the LG Act – https://bit.ly/LGact

How can I nominate as a candidate?
📌 Nomination forms and information is available at www.ntec.nt.gov.au or visit the Tiwi Islands Regional Council office.
📌 Nominations close 12 noon on Wednesday 19 August, no late nominations will be accepted.
