2026 NT SCREEN AND CINEMATIC CRAFT SUMMIT
The NT Screen and Cinematic Craft Summit returns to Darwin on 19–20 September 2026, bringing some of Australia’s leading screen practitioners, creatives, producers, cinematographers and industry decision-makers together for two days of panels, masterclasses, case studies and networking.

Presented by Screen Territory in partnership with Charles Darwin University, the Australian Cinematographers Society and the Australian Film Television and Radio School, this year’s Summit puts craft, creativity and the future of screen storytelling front and centre.

The program explores cinematography, directing, production design, factual storytelling, games development, commercial production and the business of Australian content, with sessions looking at everything from the creative partnership between directors and cinematographers to building worlds for the screen and developing games that break through.

There’s also a fantastic line-up of special screenings, including the SPARK Short Film Initiative 2026 at VMAX, Event Cinemas Palmerston on 18 September, and Crocodile Dundee: The Encore Cut, remastered in 4K with a special Q&A at Casuarina Cinemas on 19 September.

The Summit also coincides with the Darwin International Film Festival closing weekend and the Australian Cinematographers Society NT Chapter Awards on 19 September, making it a huge weekend for screen in Darwin.

WORKSHOP ‘SOLO DOCO’ AND ‘CHASING CHAOS’ SCREENING

With 35 years in television and documentary production, long-term NT filmmaker Andrew Hyde is delivering both a film screening and a workshop at this year’s Darwin International Film Festival.

The Screen Territory supported feature documentary ‘CHASING CHAOS’, directed and produced by Andrew, screens on Saturday 12 September and highlights a revolutionary approach to disaster preparedness and relief in the Indo-Pacific. In response to shifting geopolitics and the withdrawal of traditional US international aid, an unlikely team led by Dr. Ian Norton, Barbara Daufanamae, and Dr. Basil Leodoro has launched an experimental mobile medical ship called HELPR 1.

Also available is ‘SOLO DOCO’ a workshop which Andrew is delivering as part of the Darwin International Film Festival on 14 September. This is an industry focused workshop exploring the role of the shooter/director in modern documentary and factual production and is designed for emerging and established screen practitioners alike.

CROCODILE DUNDEE: THE ENCORE CUT — FREE COMMUNITY SCREENING

In 2026, we celebrate 40 years of Crocodile Dundee one of the most iconic and internationally successful films in Australian screen history and a piece of screen content that has shaped the world’s perceptions of Australia for decades!

Presented as part of the 2026 NT Screen & Cinematic Craft Summit and Screen Territory’s NT on Screen program, this special free community screening of Crocodile Dundee: The Encore Cut offers audiences the chance to experience the iconic Australian classic newly remastered in stunning 4K.

ONE BIG SCREEN. FOUR SPARK FILMS.

Join us for the red-carpet 2026 SPARK Short Film Screenings and celebrate four new Northern Territory stories on the big screen
This year’s filmmakers were challenged to respond to the theme “In A Pickle”, with each project receiving $30,000 in production finance alongside support from some of Australia’s leading screen businesses, including Panavision Australia, KOJO and Trackdown.

The initiative is further supported by Executive Producer Rachel Clements of Brindle Films, Development Mentor Greg Haddrick of Broadstory, and craft mentorship from members of faculty at the Australian Film Television and Radio School.

The 2026 SPARK Short Film Initiative reaches its big-screen red-carpet finale this September, with all four funded films screening at VMAX Event Cinemas Palmerston in association with the Darwin International Film Festival.

Screen Australia's Screen Currency 2026 report is a landmark piece of research that takes a holistic view of screen and digital games value, how it is produced, how it is captured and how Australians think and feel about it.

GOOLAGONG WINS BEST MINISERIES OR TELEMOVIE

A huge congratulations to the team behind Goolagong on taking home the Logie for Best Miniseries or Telemovie.

It’s was fantastic to see Territorians strongly represented in the production, with Darwin based Steven McGregor as a writer on the series and Danielle MacLean serving as a co-producer.

The series tells the inspiring true story of Evonne Goolagong; world champion tennis player, trailblazer and one of Australia’s greatest and most loved sporting figures.

Congratulations to Steven, Danielle and the entire team behind Goolagong on this well-deserved recognition. It’s wonderful to see Australian stories and Territorian talent celebrated on the national stage.

DEADLOCH WINS BEST LEAD ACTOR IN A COMEDY

Congratulations to Steve Bisley on winning the Logie for Best Lead Actors in a Comedy for his work in Deadloch Season 2.

It’s a brilliant result for a series that brought its distinctive brand of dark comedy to the Northern Territory which has now showcased the Territory to audiences around the world.

For the Territory, productions like Deadloch are about more than what appears on screen. They create significant economic opportunities for local crew, businesses and screen practitioners while putting the NT firmly in the frame as a destination for ambitious productions, and Screen Territory is proud to have supported the project through our Production Attraction Incentive Program.

Congratulations to Steve and everyone involved in Deadloch Season 2 on this outstanding result!
