We’re excited to be hosting two thought-provoking events next week, in collaboration with Charles Darwin University’s Northern Institute.

📚 Wednesday 2 September, 10.30am to 12noon | Book Launch
Join us for the launch of ‘The Australian Liberal Party Volume 1: Ideas, History and Organisation’ and ‘The Australian Liberal Party Volume 2: Policy Challenges and the Global Context’.

Hear from editors Associate Professor Matteo Bonotti and Associate Professor Zareh Ghazarian, alongside contributor Associate Professor Steven Farram, as they share insights into these new volumes.

The speakers return for ‘Good Parties, Good Citizens: Educating Citizens for a Better Party Democracy’.

Explore how civics education and political parties can strengthen democratic participation, and the important role libraries, educators and communities can play in building informed and engaged citizens.

Yesterday Library & Archives NT announced the 22 shortlisted works for the 2026 Northern Territory Literary Awards 🥳

This includes the two short listed scripts for the Brown's Mart Theatre award, 'Finding Magnus' by William Pyke and 'Lure' by Ryanna Clayton.

Congratulations to all 260 entries, what an incredible effort that speaks to the depth, curiosity and ability found across the Top End.

We looking forward to celebrating with you all as they announce the winners at the NT Writing Awards ceremony to be held at 5.30pm on Wednesday 23 September 2026 in Darwin, Alice Springs and online.

Library & Archives NT is excited to announce the shortlist for the 2026 Northern Territory Literary Awards!

This year more than 260 entries were received across the seven categories of the awards, with 22 outstanding works selected for the shortlist. We would like to thank all writers who entered and whose contributions continue to enrich the Northern Territory’s vibrant literary culture.

For the first time, the winners will be announced at the Northern Territory Writing Awards Ceremony where the NT Literary Awards will be presented alongside the NT History Book Award and NT Book Awards in a celebration of the Territory's finest published and unpublished writers.

The ceremony will be held at 5.30pm on Wednesday 23 September 2026 in Darwin and Alice Springs.

Tonight at LANT, Danala! Join Library & Archives NT and Taiwanese Bookshelves for a special screening of the acclaimed documentary ‘I Dream of the Ocean’ (2025), followed by an inspiring in-conversation event with Tao cultural documentarian Si Rapongan.

The documentary offers an intimate portrait of award-winning Taiwanese Indigenous writer Syaman Rapongan and his son, Si Rapongan, capturing their four-year journey of building a traditional Tao plank boat—a powerful expression of cultural knowledge, family legacy and the enduring relationship between the Tao people and the sea.

Following the screening, Si Rapongan will discuss the rich oceanic heritage of Lanyu (Orchid Island), his father's celebrated literary works, and the maritime philosophy that shapes Tao identity and storytelling.

🏆 The finalists for the 2026 Northern Territory History Book Award have been announced!

Congratulations to Martin Thomas for ‘Clever Men’ and Julie Marcus for ‘Sex and Savagery in the Good Colony’. These outstanding works explore pivotal moments in our history, uncover new perspectives on the Territory's past, and deepen our understanding of the people and events that have shaped the Northern Territory.

The winner will be announced at the Northern Territory Writing Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 23 September, where the NT History Book Award will be presented alongside the NT Literary Awards and NT Book Awards in a celebration of the Territory's finest published and unpublished writers.
