They left the Territory for the coast. Then they came back.

Nina Jones landed in Katherine in 2018 with her husband and no real plan beyond giving it a go. They built a career here. They started a family here. Then Queensland called - a sea change, closer to everything, the sensible move on paper.

What they didn't expect was how much they'd miss the Territory. Not the weather. Not the views. The people. The kind of community where the school, the street and the shops are all the same handful of faces, and everyone turns up for each other.

So they came home. Nina is now a Dual School Coordinator with the NT School of Distance Education in Darwin.

Plenty of teachers wonder if the Territory is worth the leap. Nina's already answered it the hard way.

Erin Ranie has been a part of the education sector for more than 24 years, helping support our young Territorians to grown and learn in a supportive and safe environment. ❤️

Currently the principal of Moil Primary School in the Darwin region, Erin is a strong leader for her school community, with her students at the centre of everything she does.

Nine years ago, Elisha Hamilton swapped her career as an occupational therapist for a classroom 500km east of Darwin.
She's still there. And these days, she's raising her family there too.

Elisha is a senior secondary teacher at Maningrida College, and she found her way into teaching through the Teach For Australia's Leadership Development Program, a pathway that helps people from all kinds of backgrounds step into the profession.

What's kept her nine years on isn't just the job. It's the community, the connection, and a lifestyle you can't get anywhere else. Weekends full of the outdoors, a place where people know each other, and a genuine reason to stay.

Proof that the best careers aren't always the ones you planned.
