Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc.

Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. Living City Business (DCCI) - supporting businesses to thrive so Devonport prospers.

How the Chamber Works

From its annual meeting each year, the members elect industry representatives whose responsibilities include bringing forward issues from their specialist sectors for executive discussion and action. The Chamber Executive Committee conducts monthly meetings at it office, 4 Rooke Street, Devonport. The aim of the monthly meetings is to bring together representation of member

organisations where representatives can freely express the ideas and issues relating to their particular groups. Reporting of market conditions within each industry sector at monthly meetings also provides the Chamber with current information on market trends and the health of the local economy. This also gives an indication of the local market as compared with the overall State economy. As a non-party political group, the Chamber can take up any matters with the applicable level of government on behalf of the body or individual that is seeking an effective outcome. In summary, the Chamber views itself as a working partnership of business, professional and community interests, intent on progressing commerce and industry in Devonport and its surrounding districts.

Do you live in Tasmania?

If so, you're invited to participate in a short survey about your experience: what is easy or hard about living here, how connected you feel to your community, and the things that may influence you to leave or stay here.

Link to survey: https://brnw.ch/21x5mFi

The survey takes 7 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous. It is open to anyone age 18 or older who is either currently living in Tasmania, or who has lived here sometime in the past five years.

Share your thoughts, and you can choose to go into a prize draw to win one of five $50 gift cards.

This study has been approved by the University of Tasmania Human Research Ethics Committee (H40733).

📢CGT changes are coming 1 July 2027 and to get ready, this morning’s Business and Brew was presented by Lisa Peachey, Senior Manager, Synectic was just topic. Lisa shared with us What’s staying the same & What’s confirmed to change.

This is a key change to how capital gains is calculated!

One small positive change - active asset reduction which raises the threshold turnover from $2m to $10m.

It’s complex, and will be costly and timely for all parties involved with a significantly amount of tax planning required. Succession and exit planning will also be critical for small business owners to think about in advance.

From a DCCI perspective we are concerned about the overall impacts on small business, innovation and productivity growth.

Key practical takeaways:

- Check in with your accountant
- Book your 1 July 2027 valuations
- Keep an eye on the detail still to come.

A lot of questions from the floor this morning.

Thank you to Lisa, all our attendees and our event partner, SynecticGroup for such an interactive session.

🎉 Congratulations, Kurt Weaver!

DCCI was proud to be the category sponsor for Pre-Apprenticeship Learner of the Year at Tas TAFE's Trade Excellence Awards 2026, and Kurt was a very worthy winner!

Kurt completed his pre-apprenticeship training at TasTAFE this year through the St Brendan-Shaw College VET program, juggling it alongside his regular subjects at College.

His hard work has led to two fantastic outcomes: taking home tonight's award, and securing an apprenticeship with Degree C Tasmania as an apprentice boilermaker welder.

DCCI is a strong supporter of, and advocate for, diverse learning pathways like this one, helping ensure our members have access to the skilled workers they need now and into the future.

Congratulations, Kurt, on an outstanding achievement and an exciting start to your career! 👏
