How do firefighters navigate and find their way to safety in zero visibility conditions? 🔥💨

Tonight’s training focused on a guideline drill, where members practiced tying a guideline while operating in blacked out conditions. Crews then conducted a search through a maze, using the guideline to navigate and locate the exit. The drill was designed to strengthen confidence, teamwork and search techniques in low visibility environments.

🔋 A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR OUR BRIGADE 🔋

After months of planning, coordination and hard work, Kalgoorlie Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service is pleased to announce the completion of our Backup Generator Project.

This new system provides the brigade with a reliable emergency power supply, ensuring our station remains operational during power outages. From maintaining communications and emergency response systems to ensuring access to our appliance bays and critical equipment, this project strengthens our ability to respond to emergencies at any time, under any conditions.

As volunteers, being prepared is at the heart of everything we do. This project represents a significant investment in the resilience of our brigade and our ongoing commitment to protecting the Kalgoorlie Boulder community.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all of the organisations and individuals who contributed to making this project a reality:

• Rotary Club of Boulder - WA
• Ali Kent MLA - Member for Kalgoorlie
• Norton Gold Fields
• BHP Western Australia
• Genwest Pty Ltd.
• Reliablee
• VPT Mechanical Solutions

Your support of volunteer emergency services directly contributes to a safer and more prepared community.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank our Apparatus Officer, Jamie Lawn, for his dedication and leadership in managing this project from concept through to completion. Jamie invested countless hours coordinating funding, engaging with sponsors, liaising with contractors and overseeing the installation to ensure the project was delivered successfully. His commitment and passion for improving our brigade’s capabilities have left a lasting legacy that will benefit our members and community for many years to come.

Thank you to everyone who played a part in bringing this project to life. Together, we have strengthened the future of Kalgoorlie VFRS and our ability to serve the community when it matters most. 🚒

A lot has been happening at Kalgoorlie VFRS

Earlier this month, 5 of our firefighters successfully took part in a Breathing Apparatus (BA) course held at our station. The course provided members with valuable hands on training and practical experience in the use of breathing apparatus equipment, along with important firefighting techniques that can be applied during structural fires and other hazardous incidents.

Throughout the training, firefighters were challenged both physically and mentally while learning how to safely operate in smoke filled and low visibility environments. The course focused on building confidence, teamwork, communication and situational awareness. These are all essential skills when responding to emergencies.

We were also pleased to welcome firefighters from Coolgardie VFRS and Kambalda VFRS who attended and trained alongside our members over the weekend. It was great to see brigades working together, sharing knowledge and strengthening regional cooperation and capability.

A huge thank you goes to DFES career staff DO B.Bailey, SO G.Campbell and SFF R.Andre who dedicated their time and expertise to running the course. Their guidance, support and willingness to pass on their knowledge made the weekend both enjoyable and highly beneficial for everyone involved.

Well done to all members who participated and successfully completed the training.

This National Volunteer Week, we proudly recognise and thank all volunteers who dedicate their time, skills and commitment to supporting their communities. Volunteering plays a vital role in strengthening communities across Australia, with volunteers often stepping forward during emergencies, community events and times of need without expecting anything in return.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all members of the Kalgoorlie Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service, whose ongoing dedication, training and sacrifice help keep our community safe. We also acknowledge and thank every volunteer across the country for the invaluable contribution they make each and every day. Your efforts do not go unnoticed and our communities are stronger because of you.

Today on International Firefighters’ Day, our brigade came together to honour and remember firefighters around the world who have made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as those who continue to serve their communities with courage and dedication.

At our station, members gathered in a moment of unity and reflection. We observed a minute’s silence, standing side by side in respect for our fallen colleagues and in recognition of the risks faced every day on the fireground. Our sirens sounded, an echo of remembrance and a powerful tribute to those who can no longer answer the call.

This simple but meaningful act allowed us to pause from our duties and reflect on the importance of service, mateship and community. We are proud to stand with firefighters across the globe in marking this day, remembering their sacrifice and recommitting ourselves to protecting and supporting the communities we serve.

Today, on ANZAC Day, members of Kalgoorlie VFRS pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice and mateship of all those who have served and continue to serve our country. We reflect on the legacy of the ANZACs and the values they embodied of resilience, selflessness and standing together in the face of adversity. These same values guide our brigade as we serve and protect our community. Lest we forget.
