A fresh new play space is ready to enjoy at Hayes Crescent Reserve.

As part of Council’s play space renewal program, the upgraded reserve has now been completed, creating an engaging space for local families.

The north west area of Mount Gambier continues to see strong growth in young people, and this upgrade helps ensure the community has access to safe and modern play opportunities.

The transformed reserve has been elevated to a neighbourhood-level facility and now includes:

• New combination play equipment, while retaining the existing swing.
• Upgraded fitness equipment.
• An extended multi-use court with a new goal.
• A water fountain (to be connected by SA Water), picnic tables and additional seating.
• A refreshed shelter, landscaping and improved pathways.

Sustainability was also a key focus, with up to 90% of materials from the previous equipment and softfall reused or recycled.

Put it on your list to head down and take a look at the new play space.

Mayor Lynette Martin shares key outcomes from Council’s June 2026 meeting, including an urgent motion opposing the State Government’s proposal to move Local Government Elections from November 2026 to April 2027. Council is calling for the current schedule to remain, or for elections to be deferred to November 2027.

Council has also endorsed a long term lease for the Blue Lake Golf Club, providing up to 20 years of certainty and recognising its important role in local events, tourism, employment and community wellbeing.

Council has reaffirmed its strong opposition to fracking in the Limestone Coast, calling for the current moratorium to be extended indefinitely.

And, work is progressing on a new Environmental Sustainability Policy, with a draft expected in September following community consultation. The policy will guide Council’s approach across key areas including water, waste, energy, transport, biodiversity and land use.

🚧 UPDATE: DAVISON DRIVE TO REMAIN CLOSED THIS WEEKEND

We regret to advise that Davison Drive will remain closed this weekend (Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June 2026) due to ongoing works and forecast weather, which may create hazardous road conditions.

The Valley Lake Recreational Area will therefore be inaccessible during this time.

The good news is these works are nearing completion, and we hope to restore full access in the coming weeks.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we complete these important works safely.

UPDATE: DAVISON DRIVE TO REMAIN CLOSED on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June 2026.

🚧

Road works are scheduled to commence on Davison Drive (between Bay Road and Elliott Drive) from 11 May 2026 for a period of approximately six weeks.

During this period, the road will be closed to all vehicles from Monday to Friday, meaning the Valley Lake Recreational Area will be inaccessible.

The road will be reopened on weekends, and all walking and bike trails will remain open and unaffected throughout the works.

We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause and thank you in advance for your cooperation.

For enquiries please contact City of Mount Gambier on (08) 8721 2555.
