The Victorian Health Building Authority is part of Victoria’s Department of Health (DH). We’re responsible for the planning and delivery of the Victorian Government’s multibillion-dollar health infrastructure program including health, mental health and aged care infrastructure across Victoria. Our work includes planning and building new hospitals and ambulance stations, aged care and mental health

facilities, redeveloping existing hospital facilities, as well as replacing and upgrading engineering infrastructure and medical equipment. Through strong partnerships with local and federal government, health services, industry and Victorian communities, we provide innovative and sustainable solutions to ensure our health system meets the current and future needs of all Victorians.

We’ve shut down gas-fired power generators at five major Victorian hospitals 🌿

Large hospitals use a lot of energy – so it was an important move to reduce carbon emissions.

The project was carefully planned and delivered at Dandenong Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Alfred Hospital and University Hospital Geelong.

🌏 We’re making healthcare greener.

Across Barwon Health facilities, we’re installing solar and energy efficient lights to create more sustainable and efficient spaces.

That means:
💡 7,000 new efficient energy lights
🌞 1,300 kilowatt of solar
⚙ improving how buildings are run

The result?
✅ 16% less electricity used
✅ around $1.46 million saved each year

Most importantly, better spaces for staff and patients and a lighter footprint on our planet.
