♻️ Sustainable construction: EBC joins the final General Assembly, hosted by Tándem Franquicias in Mallorca

This project dedicated to bio-based materials and solutions to enhance the energy performance of enters its final phase.

Bringing together partners from across Europe, the exchanges focused on the demonstration sites, including a visit of the Spanish demo site in Alcúdia. The partners explored local initiatives using and BIO4EEB solutions, discussing their potential with local architects and professionals.

As leader of ’s clustering and activities, EBC shared updates on cooperation with other Horizon Europe projects and on its EU-wide training activities for construction .

The next training day will take place in November in Italy, together with ANAEPA-Confartigianato Edilizia, further strengthening EBC’s engagement with and its commitment to a more sustainable sector.

🚀 EBC position paper on the European Strategy: No skills without SMEs, a VET Strategy for construction

and micro companies play a key role in and at local level, representing 99% of all companies in the sector in the .

For that reason, EBC outlines four policy to strengthen vocational education and in construction and better support SMEs:

🟦 Strengthen alignment with needs through flexible VET provision and social partner cooperation
🟨 Enhance the and of VET in construction
🟦 Support SME-friendly in VET to support the transitions in the construction sector
🟨 Make VET a priority in the 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework ( )

EBC President Jean Christophe Repon stated: “As an electrician and having spent time leading France’s joint training institutes, I know that construction will need to recruit on a massive scale in the years ahead. Rising to that challenge means being ever more performant in training and the attractiveness of our trades, starting with a VET system that works for the local SMEs training and employing people across the sector. Training must reflect their realities and changing skills needs, and construction careers must be promoted as a first choice - offering quality education to young people, women and new talent”.

EBC looks forward to the and stands ready to work with the EU institutions, Member States and social partners to strengthen vocational education and skills, widen access to construction careers and support a competitive, sustainable sector across Europe.

📢 Energy efficiency: EBC, together with 26 organisations from the building and energy sectors, has signed a joint calling for the effective implementation of the revised .

For the sector, legal certainty and predictability are essential. Delays and fragmented approaches risk undermining investment, particularly for already committed to delivering Europe’s renovation objectives.

The joint statement calls for effective transposition; clear on practical ; targeted communication campaigns; proportionate verification and inspection routes; efficient standardization; and investment in .

With 94% of construction companies being micro companies, EBC highlights the importance of a practical and clear framework that enables to actively contribute to the transition towards more sustainability and resilience.

🏠 How can One-Stop Shops help overcome the challenges of renovation across Europe?

Condominiums play a crucial role in Europe’s building stock, but turning ambitions into action can be difficult when ownership is fragmented, decisions are collective and financing solutions are not always accessible.

On 29 September, EBC and UIPI - International Union of Property Owners will bring together policymakers, financial institutions, local authorities and construction stakeholders for the CondoReno final event: “Scaling up renovation: One-Stop Shops meet the condominium challenge” in Brussels.

The event will explore how One-Stop Shops ( ) can provide effective support to accelerate condominium renovation, focusing on governance challenges, renovation support services and innovative financing solutions.

📢 Energy Efficiency: The European Commission has launched infringement procedures against all 27 EU Member States for failing to fully transpose the recast (Directive (EU) 2024/1275) into national law.

At the same time, the Commission published its first assessment of 16 draft National Building Renovation Plans ( ), while 12 Member States have yet to submit theirs.

For in the sector, delays in the implementation reinforce uncertainty and make it more difficult to plan investments and support the of Europe’s building stock.

EBC stresses the importance of timely implementation and ambitious, practical NBRPs. With the crisis high on the EU agenda, a clear and stable framework for building renovation is essential.

🏗️Subcontracting in : EBC President Jean Christophe Repon discusses with EURACTIV on the future of in the sector.

Following their joint event at the European Parliament, EBC President and Bruno Bothua from EFBWW highlight the need to address long and complex subcontracting chains, with public money supporting genuine economic activity, quality projects and responsible .

As the European Commission works on a Public Procurement Act, EBC calls on the to introduce rules limiting excessive subcontracting chains in construction, with Member States and sectoral social partners designing and implementing solutions that reflect their national realities and local anchorage.

Together with , EBC will continue engaging with European and national stakeholders to promote responsible subcontracting and a framework that supports a competitive, SME-friendly construction sector and good working conditions.

🏠 Housing: EBC held the 2nd Affordable Housing Initiative European Partnership webinar, dedicated to the implementation of the and Directives and the role of renewable energy solutions in affordable .

The session brought together contributions from the European Commission (DG Energy), the EGEC Geothermal, Solar Heat Europe, Bioenergy Europe and L'Union sociale pour l'habitat, exploring how heating solutions such as geothermal, solar thermal, sustainable biomass and district heating can accelerate building and support energy security.

EBC will continue supporting the exchange of approaches best practices on affordable and sustainable renovation through the project. The third and final webinar will take place after the summer.
