Meet Aisha, a volunteer on our 24-Hour Crisis Line.
Aisha's journey to Distress Centre Calgary began with a lifelong commitment to giving back. After volunteering with several organizations in the community, she wanted to find a more direct way to support people's mental health and wellbeing.
What keeps her here is the impact, both on and off the lines.
On the lines, Aisha has connected with people from across Alberta and beyond, each conversation reinforcing the power of simply being there to listen.
"I'm a big believer in giving back to the community. I believe whatever you put out, you receive."
But that impact reaches far beyond her volunteer shifts. Through her experience and skills learned at Distress Centre, Aisha has become an even more steady source of support for her children, friends, and community, especially for young people navigating mental health challenges.
She mentors the youth in her community, empowering her children and their friends to advocate for their mental health and support one another. Every conversation is a reminder that showing up with compassion can make a meaningful difference.
Thank you, Aisha, for the care, empathy, and support you bring to every conversation.
