This past weekend, CCIS hosted a successful Temporary Foreign Workers (TFW) Breakfast Café, welcoming Temporary Foreign Workers from across Calgary and the surrounding area.

Held in the CCIS lobby, the event provided a safe, welcoming space for workers to come together during a time of uncertainty surrounding changes to immigration policies. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, learn about their rights and options, and connect with community services and resources.

Beyond information sharing, the Breakfast Café fostered meaningful connections. Attendees built new friendships, expanded their networks, shared experiences, and enjoyed a sense of community. By bringing workers and service providers together in one place, the event helped participants access support, find direction, and strengthen their sense of confidence, connection, and belonging.

Share a photograph and a short caption showing what you value most about your work.

How to participate
Reply to this post by uploading your favourite photograph on Facebook or Instagram.
Your photo may include:
✅ Your workplace or local landscapes
✅ A selfie or photo of yourself at work, alone or with others
✅ Finished products or work processes

Important: You must have permission to share the photograph from anyone shown in the photo and/or from your employer.
📷 You may submit more than one photograph.

🏆 Prize

As another Calgary summer comes to an end, so does another season of the Calgary Connect Summer Program.

For many of the children who participated this year, this was their first summer in Canada. Between adjusting to a new home, a new school, and often a new language, settling into a new country can feel overwhelming. Sometimes, having a place to play, explore, meet other children, and simply enjoy being a kid can make all the difference.

This summer, 199 newly arrived government-assisted refugee children found exactly that through the Calgary Connect Summer Program under the Newcomer Child & Youth Connections program (NCYC), a free two-week camp offered in partnership with the City of Calgary – Your Local Government for children aged 6 to 12 who arrived in Canada within the last year.

Over the course of the summer, campers played sports and games, created crafts, participated in talent shows, explored Calgary through field trips, and spent time with new friends. From visits to Heritage Park, The Calgary Zoo, Riley Park, Calgary Farmyard, and indoor playgrounds: Kidzgo and Luv 2 Play to meeting special guests from the Calgary Police Service, City of Calgary Fire Department, Calgary Public Library, Calgary Emergency Management Agency, City of Calgary Parks and Recreation Department and from coach Maggie Zacsko, each day brought new experiences and opportunities to discover more about the city they now call home.

The program is offered at no cost to families and includes transportation and first-language support. It is also made possible by an incredible team of CCIS Summer Camp Leaders, many of whom are former refugee clients gaining their first Canadian work experience while helping create a welcoming and positive experience for children who are beginning their own settlement journey.

As we wrap up another successful summer, we would like to thank the children, families, camp leaders, guest speakers, community partners, and our colleagues at the City of Calgary for helping make this program such a memorable experience.

We would also like to acknowledge Canadian Immigration and Citizenship (IRCC), the program's primary funder, as well as Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities for their generous support.

💙 While summer camp may only last a few weeks, the friendships made, the confidence gained, and the memories created often last much longer. For many of these children, these experiences will become part of their very first memories of summer in Canada.
