Last month, Edmonton had its wettest June on record. While farmers welcome the moisture, it has created extraordinary challenges for many farms, and Patchwork Market & Garden is no exception. Flooding and hail has overwhelmed this beautiful market garden, wiping out 95% of their crops, and much of the hard work that went into the season has been washed away. The good news is that the farmers of Patchwork Market & Garden have already reseeded, some crops have survived the excess moisture, and the team is focusing their energy on rebuilding.

To give the farm a chance to recover and ensure safe site access, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the farm tour and potluck from July 25, to September 19.

We appreciate your understanding and hope you'll be able to join us then, not only to learn more about their recovery this summer, but to discuss perseverance, adaptation to climate change, and lessons learned for the future.

📅 WHEN: September 19, 2026 | 10am – 3pm

📍 LOCATION: Treaty 6 territory | Edmonton, Alberta

There's only one week left to register for our upcoming farm tour, land access workshop, and potluck at Patchwork Market & Garden in Edmonton, Alberta, on July 25th!

Come spend a day exploring an innovative peri-urban farm that is redefining what farming can look like within city limits. Patchwork Market & Garden is a collaborative market garden owned and operated by three farmers who have built a thriving farm business using creativity, community partnerships, and a low-cost startup approach to overcome barriers to land access.

In addition to touring the farm, we will be hosting a discussion with Young Agrarians Alberta Land Matcher, Dylan. Whether you’re actively looking for land, have land to share, or simply want to support a more accessible future for agriculture, we invite your questions and ideas as we discuss Young Agrarians new Land Matching Program in Alberta.

We can't wait to see you there!

The Government of Alberta is looking for YOUR feedback for the Ardley Reservoir Scoping and Feasibility Study.
Your input will help inform options to increase water storage capacity and enhance water security in the Red Deer River Basin east of the City of Red Deer.

Input on the potential dam and water storage reservoir will help them assess the feasibility of designing, constructing, and operating a potential new dam and water storage reservoir on the Red Deer River. This will include potential social, economic and environmental impacts and benefits.

Help grow the next generation of regenerative farmers by becoming a Host Farm in the Young Agrarians Apprenticeship Program! We're looking for full-time farmers and ranchers in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba who are ready to share their knowledge, skills, and experience with aspiring farmers from across Canada.

Why join? You'll get to:

🍅 Mentor an aspiring farmer in the day-to-day realities of running a farm or ranch operation. For many apprentices, this experience is a foundational step toward a future in agriculture.
🍅 Connect with a peer-learning community through online events that provide an opportunity to troubleshoot and share experiences with other farmers in navigating hiring, training and retaining employees.
🍅 Receive virtual training from HR professionals and one-on-one support from our provincial coordinators
🍅 Amplify your farm business through a featured blog and social media posts on YA platforms

We would love to hear from you! Learn more and apply here 👉https://youngagrarians.org/programs/apprenticeship-program/apprenticeship-become-a-hostfarm/
