🧑‍🚒It’s Fire Smart Friday and Fire Prevention Week!

🔊Golden Fire Rescue encourages all residents to actively support the 2026 Fire Prevention Week theme, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower” by learning about the importance of buying, charging and recycling lithium-ion batteries safely.

👇Here is today’s tip from Golden Fire Rescue:

🔥Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke. If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire.

👇Here is today’s tip from Golden Fire Rescue:

🔋Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail.

It’s Friday!

There are many factors that may impact your property’s risk of wildfire in the three zones around your home.

The Immediate Zone is a non-combustible area that starts at your house and extends to a 1.5 metre perimeter around the home and attached structures, including decks.

The Intermediate Zone is the area that is 1.5 to 10 metres around your home and includes materials that can be managed so they don’t transmit fire to your home.

The Extended Zone is the area 10 to 30 metres around your home. The goal in this zone is not to eliminate fire, but to reduce its intensity.

Golden’s FireSmart Coordinator, Michelangelo Mingarelli can help you to learn more about how to protect your property! Reach out to Michelangelo anytime at [email protected] or 250-344-1337. Learn more at www.golden.ca/firesmart
