🎉 Congratulations to Perth County Paramedic Services’ Mobile Integrated Health Team! 🎉

This week at the Ontario Municipal Social Services Association (OMSSA) Conference, the ARC (Access Resource Connection) Program received the 2025 Local Municipal Champion Award 🏆

The ARC team, made up of a Perth County Community Paramedic and an Intensive Housing & Community Outreach Coordinator from City of Stratford - The Municipality Social Services, is being recognized for its innovative, collaborative approach to supporting vulnerable populations through integrated healthcare and social services.

By improving access to care, reducing wait times, addressing social determinants of health, and proactively connecting individuals with supports, the ARC Program is helping reduce emergency calls and hospital visits while building stronger community trust.

This award recognizes the team’s dedication to advancing excellence in human services integration and creating sustainable, people-centered solutions that could serve as a model for communities across the province.

Congratulations Team ARC on this well-deserved recognition! 👏

Earlier in May, staff at Stratford-Perth Archives had the pleasure of meeting with Margaret and David Thorsell to accept their donation of Margaret’s Klein family history book: “Klein: A Family Story”.

In 1834, brothers John and Georg Klein emigrated from Alsace, France to Upper Canada. They both settled on property in Downie Township. John and Georg’s arrival was just the beginning of the Klein family’s history in Perth County.

In the 1970’s, Margaret, her father George J. Klein, and her uncle Robert E. Klein began their family research project. After years of work, Margaret compiled her father’s, uncle’s, and her own research, drawings, photographs, and family stories into a family history book.

It is a privilege for the staff at Stratford-Perth Archives to be entrusted with family histories such as the Klein family story to preserve and make accessible to future generations.

Do you know the origin of Victoria Day? Victoria Day began in 1845 as a special event for everyone to celebrate Her Majesty’s birthday which was May 24, 1819. Queen Victoria died on January 22, 1901. The “Atwood Bee” newspaper of May 24, 1901 reported that “King Edward has decided that his birthday shall be celebrated May 24th of each year thus continuing the holiday. The 24th will henceforth be celebrated as Victoria Day.”

This painting is from the collection at Stratford-Perth Archives. It is a portrait of Queen Victoria with three generations of her male successors: Edward VII, George V, and Edward VIII.
