Supporter Spotlight 🚨
Back in May, True North announced it was now pet friendly! We are incredibly grateful for the support of the , who helped make this dream a reality. 🐾
"It is essential that we provide the necessary support for those who need it, and our mission at Calgary Humane Society is to provide that, no matter the circumstances. We will continue to do what we can in order for animals to stay with their families. Our pets give us comfort, companionship, and much more. It is crucial that they can stay with the people who love them.
Our partnership with True North Society will give this security to families. In difficult situations, what will happen to your pet should not be a concern. Partnering with True North Society is pivotal in continuing on the path of keeping families together. Through consulting with our team, we gave important insights and tools that helped True North Society become a pet friendly shelter. We are grateful to offer medical care, shelter, food, and any necessities to animals and their owners seeking help.
Sally Johnston, the Director of Community Services and Pathway Planning at Calgary Humane Society, consulted directly with True North Society during their transition to become pet friendly. "In times of crisis, especially when facing gender-based or domestic violence, the bond with our animals becomes even more powerful. They offer comfort, strength, courage, and hope. By keeping pets with their families as they seek safety, we help preserve the family unit and empower people to take brave steps toward a better future. It is an honour to support women’s shelters in becoming pet friendly, and organizations like True North Society have shown firsthand how welcoming pets can inspire healing, resilience, and empowerment," says Johnston.
True North Society’s dedication, passion, and compassion made this possible. In this partnership, pets can remain where they are needed most."
