💙 Mentor Monday: Meet Jas! 💙

For Jas, becoming a KidStart mentor has been about so much more than helping a young person grow. It’s about growing together. She came into KidStart hoping to make a difference in someone else’s life, but along the way, she’s found that her mentee has quietly made a difference in hers, too.

Jas says some of the most meaningful moments are the little ones, when a mentee starts to feel comfortable, opens up, and feels safe enough to simply be themselves.

Mentorship is about showing up, building trust, and sharing the journey. And sometimes, the person you set out to support ends up teaching you a few things along the way.

💙 This National Nonprofit Day, we’re celebrating the mentors, volunteers, donors, families and community members who help make KidStart possible.

At KidStart, we know that sometimes, making a difference starts with simply being there. For a young person, having a mentor in their corner can mean so much. A person who listens, encourages them, shares a laugh, tries something new with them, or simply makes time for them.
It’s through these everyday moments that meaningful relationships grow. Young people feel supported and valued, build confidence, and have the opportunity to discover what’s possible.

We couldn’t do this without our incredible mentors and donors. Your time, generosity and belief in young people are at the heart of KidStart and help us create these meaningful opportunities.

💙 Summer Camp Adventures with KidStart - Part 2! 💙

Our KidStart youth have been making the most of summer! ☀️🌲
From overnight adventures and outdoor exploration to cooking, horseback riding, water activities, and so much more, these camp experiences have given youth the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, try new things, and make unforgettable memories.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and community partners, KidStart youth have been able to access incredible camp experiences across British Columbia. These opportunities are about more than just having fun. They help youth build confidence, independence, resilience, friendships, and new skills in supportive and encouraging environments.

💙 Mentor Monday: Meet Salma! 💙

What makes mentoring so rewarding? For Salma, it’s seeing her mentee’s face light up when she arrives to pick her up and spending time talking, laughing and sharing stories together.

After almost a year with KidStart, Salma has discovered just how meaningful mentoring can be. She joined because she loves working with children and wanted to try being a mentor. Since then, her experience has opened doors to other opportunities working with kids, including coding, biking and summer camp instruction.
But for Salma, the greatest reward is the connection she’s built with her mentee and knowing she can be a positive presence in her life. 💙

Summer Camp Adventures with KidStart! 💙
Summer is all about trying new things, building confidence, and making memories - and that’s exactly what our KidStart youth have been doing! 🌲⛺
Thanks to the generosity of our donors and community partners, youth in our program had the opportunity to attend a variety of incredible summer camps across British Columbia. From learning to ski, sail, surf, cook, and perform on stage, to exploring the outdoors and making new friends, each camp offered unique experiences that encouraged personal growth, independence, and fun.
Every camp experience gives youth the chance to discover new interests, develop lifelong skills, and create memories they’ll carry with them for years to come.
